TIPS on
WRITING EDITORIALS
![Page 24: Editorial Writing 2012](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062523/577cc9b21a28aba711a45bec/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Use the “WE” approach or the 3rd person, since it represents a group opinion Create the opinion from a NEWSPEG For controversial issues, presents both sides; take up the advantages and disadvantages Use beautiful but formal languages to influence and catch readers attention In choosing the topic, make sure it is the main headline or current issue Make a further research about the topic and show data and statistics to prove your side
![Page 25: Editorial Writing 2012](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062523/577cc9b21a28aba711a45bec/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
Put alternative solution to the problem or issue being criticized.
Use direct approach – opinion is given at the beginning, followed by supporting evidence and reasoning
Tie up your ending with that of the beginning paragraph
Both sides of the issue should be deeply understood before deciding which side to take and stand for
Always remember your AIM/GOAL is to effectively convince readers to be with the side of the news paper’s principle & opinion
