Marr Date: 13 January 2019 Brief curriculum vitae Celia Marr is an Associate at Rossdales Equine Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Newmarket providing services in equine cardiology, internal medicine and intensive care. She graduated from the Glasgow University Veterinary School in 1985, then remained in Glasgow to complete a Masters degree on abdominal ultrasonography and subsequently a PhD on superficial digital flexor tendon injuries. In 1989, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study equine cardiology and internal medicine at the New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania. Celia returned to the UK in 1993 to join the University of Cambridge Veterinary School as a lecturer. Subsequently, she spent 3 years in racehorse practice in Lambourn and then spent seven years at the Royal Veterinary College. Celia is a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine, an Honorary Professor of the University of Glasgow, a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. She has published research articles and textbook chapters relating to a range of medical disorders of the horse, concentrating on cardiovascular disease and diagnostic imaging and has edited a textbook on Cardiology of the Horse, the 2 nd Edition of which was published in 2010. Editor: Tom Stout Date: 3rd January 2019 Brief curriculum vitae Tom Arjun Edgar Stout graduated from Cambridge University Veterinary School in 1993. He received a Horserace Betting Levy Board Clinical Training Scholarship and a Dorothy Havemeyer Foundation Fellowship to pursue his PhD studies at the Equine Fertility Unit in Newmarket, completing his PhD on ‘Maternal Recognition of Pregnancy in the Mare’ in 1998. Between 1997 and 1999 he was Lecturer in Animal Reproduction at Cambridge University Veterinary School. In 1999, he moved to Utrecht University as Assistant Professor of Equine Reproduction. He became a founding diplomat of the European College of Animal Reproduction in 2001. In 2007, he was appointed full professor in the chair of Equine Medicine and Reproduction at Utrecht University, and Extraordinary Professor at the Department of Production Animal Sciences, University of Pretoria (South Africa). He has been examiner for the RCVS certificate and diploma examinations in Equine Stud medicine and is past Chair of the International Equine Reproduction Symposium Committee, and a member of the International Equine Reproduction Trust, and the International Stallion Reproduction Symposium committee. He is coordinator of research in both equine and farm animal reproduction at Utrecht University and a supervisor of PhD students and ECAR residents. His primary interests are in equine (sub)fertility, assisted reproduction, embryonic development and pregnancy loss. He is author or co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters. Competing Interests Statement Editor: Peter D Clegg Date: 21 June 2011 Brief curriculum vitae Peter Clegg is Professor of Equine Surgery and Deputy Head of the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Diseases at the University of Liverpool, where he has both clinical and research responsibilities. He graduated from St. John’s College, University of Cambridge in 1987 and initially spent four years in equine practice in Leicestershire. Following a period of travelling, he undertook a Residency in Equine Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London and subsequently a PhD in cartilage biochemistry which was awarded from the University of Liverpool in 1997. Since then he has been Lecturer, then Senior Lecturer, in Equine Orthopaedics at the University of Liverpool, before being appointed Professor of Equine Surgery at Leahurst in 2005. Between 2003 and 2006, he spent three years as a Wellcome Trust Research Leave Fellow at the University of Manchester investigating aspects of cartilage biology. Peter is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (DipECVS), holds the RCVS Certificate in Equine Orthopaedics, and is RCVS recognised specialist in Equine Surgery. He is currently chairman of examiners for the RCVS Diploma in Equine Orthopaedics and an examiner for the DipECVS. Editor: Jennifer L Davis Date: 1/3/2019 Brief curriculum vitae Dr. Davis received her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Tech. She then did an internship at Mississippi State University in Equine Medicine and Surgery. From there, she completed a residency in Equine Internal Medicine at North Carolina State University, during which time she received a Master’s degree in Specialized Veterinary Medicine and achieved board certification as a specialist in Large Animal Internal Medicine. Following this, she completed a PhD program and residency in Clinical Pharmacology. She also received board certification as a specialist in Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Davis spent 10 years as faculty at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in Equine Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. In 2017, she moved backed to Virginia Tech and is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Her research area of interest involves pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of therapeutic and investigational drugs, drug release from novel pharmaceutical forms, and drug stability/strength in compounded formulations. Editor: René Van Weeren Date: 12 January 2016 Brief curriculum vitae Paul René van Weeren (1957) graduated in 1983 from the Utrecht University Veterinary Faculty (The Netherlands). He became a staff member of the Department of General and Large Animal Surgery in that year and obtained his PhD degree in 1989. From 1991-1993 he worked as a visiting professor at the Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria of the Universidad Nacional in Heredia, Costa Rica. He became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1994. He was appointed as full professor to the Chair of Equine Musculoskeletal Biology in 2007 and is now mainly involved in research with focus areas articular cartilage, tendons and biomechanics. He became Head of the Department of Equine Sciences of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University in 2012 and interim-head of the Department of Clinical Care of Companion Animals in 2018. René van Weeren has been a supervisor of 31 PhD students, who have obtained their degree in the past years and currently supervises 10 PhD students, who will be graduating within the next few years. He is an associate editor of Equine Veterinary Journal, member of the editorial board of The Veterinary Journal, and member of the scientific board of several others. He has been, or is, guest editor of various Special Issues or Supplements of a variety of scientific journals. He has been external examiner for PhD students abroad at various occasions in Belgium, the UK, France, Austria, Sweden, Norway and Finland. He is author or co-author of more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has contributed various chapters to a variety of textbooks. He is one of the editors of the 2nd edition of Joint Disease in the Horse, which was published in the autumn of 2015.
