EDITOR'S NOTE

In this, the sixth issue of the Decorative Arts Society Annual Journal, the Committee of the Society have again to express their grateful thanks to the contributors who have shown an enthusiasm to share their specialised knowledge. It has been the intention, in the past, to attempt to produce a Journal with a shared theme- where all the articles cover a common subject or period. This intention is usually not workable, and this year's offering is no exception. Thus there is no common theme, but instead a good and wide range of subject matter, covering furniture, sculpture, architecture and museum policy. Two of the contributions can be mentioned in order to draw the reader's attention to certain facts: the article on the Regent Cinema, Brighton, is in celebration of a remarkable building which has been demolished - perhaps this is a topic which can be aired again in future issues; another article on the collections of a Hamburg museum, is the first from a contributor in a European museum, and we are pleased to welcome such an event.
