DIPLOMA v. COURSE CANDIDATE

• Two kinds of candidates: Diploma / Course

Students who leave the full-IB diploma series may opt for certificates in subject areas, but:

In-district transfer students must maintain an Honors / IB course load of at least FOUR classes to stay at EWHS, or they will be sent back to their home school.

COLLEGE RECOGNITION FOR IB

Approximately 1,600 colleges and universities currently have policies to recognize IB

The Diploma Programme stands out among other high school curricula available today in the US public education system because it offers a rigorous, aligned, integrated instructional system that is…transformative for high-needs students. Source: McKinsey for the Diploma Gap Study, 2008

RIGHT FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH

"For many years we here at CMC have considered the full-IB Diploma to be the "Gold Standard." We automatically consider that curriculum to be the most rigorous possible. It just doesn't get any tougher. Unlike an AP program in which students who can pick and choose which AP courses to take, sometimes based on playing to their strengths and avoiding their weaknesses, the full IB diploma is consistent, coherent, rigorous, and takes two full years to complete."

Richard Vos Vice President/Dean of Admission, Claremont McKenna College

WHO ARE THEY, ANYWAY?

"IB is well known to us as excellent preparation. Success in an IB program correlates well with success at Harvard. We are always pleased to see the credentials of the IB Diploma Program on the transcript."

Marlyn McGrathDirector of Admissions, Harvard

"Send us prepared students a la IB...it is the BEST high school prep curriculum an American school can offer."

Marilee JonesFormer Director of Undergraduate Admissions, M.I.T.

BUT DON’T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT

Elizabeth Kim, Yale University, Class of ’12"The IB program at Edmonds-Woodway forced me to enhance my strengths and improve my weaknesses by providing me with a well-rounded curriculum. At Edmonds-Woodway, I was lucky to have teachers and classes that could transform average intelligence into something more.“

Vanessa Kerr, Brandeis University, Class of ’11“My experiences in the International Baccalaureate program, specifically with Down4Darfur and Human Rights First, have directly impacted the way I view the world and my place in it. I see my education at Brandeis University not merely in terms of my future success in the working world, but as a launch pad to a lifetime of doing what I can to make a difference in the world. I credit the support of intelligent and compassionate teachers and the willingness of my fellow IB students to stand together in commitment to a cause as the basis for my current ambitions.”
