2 SCOPE AND PURPOSE
2.1 Purpose
This work method statement describes methods and procedures that will be used insoil resistivity survey of the Load Lines of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Crude OilPipeline Project for the TCP System.
2.2 Scope
This Work Method Statement covers the resurvey and verify the soil resistivitymeasurements along the Load Lines route at approximately every 100 meters.
Resurvey along the pipeline route to assess the conductivity of the soil will becarried out to ensure continues flow and evenly distribution of current fromcathodic protection transformer/rectifier units. This soil resistivity survey willprovide information in determining the temporary cathodic protection (TCP)current requirements along the pipeline. This data will be used to verify and, ifnecessary, modify the previous consultant’s test results. Any change to projectspecifications if made, will be submitted to the Employer with supportivedocumentation.

6 SOIL RESISTIVITY SURVEY
6.1 General
A soil resistivity survey along the pipeline route to assess the corrosionlikelihood of the soil will be carried out to identify corrosive areas and todetermine locations where temporary cathodic protection (TCP) is required.

6.2 Measuring Equipment
The following instruments and any additional instruments which shall be reasonablynecessary shall be available on site for the TCP/PCP survey, testing, and
installation:
AC resistance bridge or megger (frequency approx. 108 Hz) Multimeter for AC and DC voltage, current and resistance measurements GPS receiver Cu/CuSO4 half-cells Shunt, 1 megohm Miscellaneous hand tools
The measuring equipment to be used for the survey shall be subject to the approvalof the BTC P/L Directorate. All equipment will be calibrated annually.

6.3 Procedure
The soil resistivity will be calculated immediately after the test is performed. If themeasurement between two consecutive readings has either increased or decreasedby a factor of two, then intermediate soil measurements will be done.
The test set-up utilizes the mechanics of the Wenner "Four Pin-Electrode Method".The resultant resistivity is the average resistivity of the soil (electrolyte) to a depthequal to the spacing between adjacent electrodes (soil pins). When using the 4 pinmethod to measure soil resistance, the 4 pins are driven into the ground in astraight line at the spacing stated below. Good contact with the soil is important.The two “C” binding posts are connected to the two end pins, and the two “P”binding posts are connected to the adjacent center pins.
Wenner 4-Pin Method
The soil resistivity will be carried out by the Wenner 4-Pin method. The resultantresistivity is the average resistivity of the soil (electrolyte) to a depth equal to thespacing between adjacent electrodes (soil pins).
The distances between the inner electrodes " P1- P2" and between the inner and theneighboured outer electrodes "C1-C2 will be as follows:
1st series of measurements, Wenner methoda = 2.0 m
2nd series of measurements,a = 4.0 m
Each measurement series will comprise consecutive individual measurementsperformed at equal intervals over the total length to be surveyed. If necessary,greater distances of "a" will be used.

Soil resistivity measurements will be obtained along the pipeline route at depths of2, and 4 meters.
Soil resistivity measurements will be plotted on a graph of resistivity versus distance(km). This graph will be used to locate areas with less than 2000 ohm cm soilresistivity. At these locations, a TCP test station will be installed.
The soil resistivity survey will be carried out under the supervision and control ofproject engineers.
