Collaborating with OthersBy: Elizabeth Cross
Collaborating with other teacher is an advantage that all
teachers should take advantage of no matter if they are
new and just starting out or are veteran teachers. Havingother teachers in the same grade level can help when it
comes time for putting together lesson plans instead of
having to think of ones on your own. Extra advantages
would be the different skills each teacher has and can
share with you to better a lesson or classroom
management. Further benefits would be the ability to
borrow from another teacher, such as ideas for lessons,
supplies for a project, etc The biggest reason for
collaboration is for support in your grade level and
support throughout the school. Support from other
teachers that have been there and done that is peace of
mind that I can get through a day with peace of mind
and that I have accomplished something with thesupport of my fellow teachers.

My thoughts and Desires for Becoming a TeacherBy: Elizabeth Cross
My desire for teaching stems from when I was young. I have always had the desire to want to helpothers and possibly even be someone that can change the lives of children. Children deserve an education and
teacher that is passionate about teaching and wanting to help students in any means necessary.
I spent sometime in a classroom as an observer and student teacher, each time I taught a lesson andsaw that preverbal light bulb go off in a students mind, I knew that I was choosing the right path. Teaching bringsgreat joy and excitement. Each day is filled with new challenges and new excitement.
Molding the minds of young students who will grow up to do big, bright and exciting things, as a
teacher you never know if you are teaching a future President or someone of high importance , will be influentialto the world. Students deserve the best education that is possible and deserve a teacher that is passionate aboutteaching . I was always told that I could do what ever I put my mind to and that I should always do my best. I wantto instill this in my students and give them the confidence that they need to succeed.
I want to an environment in which students feel safe and comfortable to come and approach me withany problems they may be having, whether is be at home, with their schoolwork, bullying, etc there are going to
be students that are troubled and crying out for help and I want to be that person that they can come to, so I canhelp them or find the appropriate help that they need and deserve. Each child deserves to come to school and beexcited about learning and not be scared to come to school. I want to be the teacher that the students rememberand be their inspiration.

Managing a Literacy CenterBy: Elizabeth Cross
There are many types of literacy centers teachers can create tohelp students understand why reading and writing is so
important. Managing a literacy center does not mean that a
teacher needs to necessarily need to re-create the wheel, but can
choose one that has already been proven successful.
To manage a literacy center it would first need to be a center that
coincides with the current lesson. This would be a center where
students can go to when they are done with a particular lesson. Tokeep it manageable students would need to go individually or two
at a time so things do not get chaotic.
Literacy centers can change with each story or can be a year
round center to help the students with understanding of a
particular standard that is being taught.

Key Elements of a Lesson PlanBy: Elizabeth Cross
Lesson plans contain many key elements that provide details of how to begin, follow
though, and end a lesson.
Summary of a Lesson Plan: this is the first thing that should be done for a lessonplan. It allows for a previous lesson review and/or a new topic that is going to beintroduced. This section is typically one or two sentences at the most.Grade Level: here is where the grade that is being taught, example 3rd grade.Skill Level: this allows for the teacher to know what skill level group he/she will be
teaching, e.g. below level, on-level, above level, and all skill levels. Typically ateacher will teach all levels at the beginning of the lesson and then move on to thedifferent skill level groups.Grouping Structure: Allows for different types of grouping structures for students towork in. Students can work in groups, as a class whole or individually, also allowingthe different skills levels to work and learn from each other. Objectives: show what is to be taught and which standard the lesson is being tied
into.Procedure: is what the students are going to by doing during the lesson, step-by-step instructions for the lesson.Assessment: is key to a lesson, this shows weather or not the students haveunderstood the material and if not what they are not understanding.Homework: is optional but is a good thing, it allows the students additional practiceor time to finish work from the day.
Materials: are what is going to be needed for a lesson.

Displaying Student WorkBy: Elizabeth Cross
Displaying my students work is not only
something that I am going to be proud of, but the students
themselves are going to be proud as well and wanting
others to see the work they are proud of. Displaying their
work will bring self-confidence and encourage them tocontinue the good work. In my classroom will be a bulletin
board that will always be up for students to showcase their
excellent work in any subject. This will be up years round so
the students are able to switch out their work when theyfind a new piece of work they are proud of.
Another way of displaying my students work
would either be on the outside of my classroom door and/or
have a bulletin board right outside the classroom. This
would be for a project that the students are working on and
wanted to show their progress or their finished work to the
rest of the students, teachers and staff. Work that isdisplayed will be chosen by the student. Displaying their
work is something that will inspire students of all ages and
grades to do the best that they can do.

Family InvolvementBy: Elizabeth Cross
Family involvement is such a crucial and critical and crucial part to a students learning and
development in a classroom. It would be ideal to have every parent help out in the classroom,
reality is that one or both parents work in order to provide for the household. At home parents can
begin by helping with their child's homework, making sure they have completed the work andthat they have everything they need for the next day. At home parents can be involved by
encouraging their children that they can do anything they put their mind to.
At the beginning of the year and through out the year will be newsletters telling parents of
upcoming events and opportunities to come in and be a part of the classroom. My classroom willhave an open door policy where parents are not only welcome but encouraged to come in andtalk with me about any thoughts or concerns they may have. Parent involvement is vital to a
smooth running school year with the students and parents alike. Parents will be encouraged to
volunteer for school events, classroom events, reading time which will be every Friday afternoon
and welcome to come on field trips. I want my classroom to be a safe environment where
students will be excited to come and to class and learn and be a place where they can come to
when they have any type of problem.
