1 Introduction
The purpose of this engineering standard is to provide designers, installers and operators with the necessary technical and practical information required to enable the safe and efficient installation of both 11kV and 33kV transformer tails within UK Power Networks.
2 Scope
2.1 11kV Cables
This document covers all 11kV single XLPE core cables in trefoil formation in both laid direct and ducted installations for use as transformer tails:
630mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 115mm2 aluminium wire screen;
800mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 115mm2 aluminium wire screen;
1000mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 115mm2 aluminium wire screen;
1200mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 115mm2 aluminium wire screen.
2.2 33V Cables
This document covers all 33kV single XLPE core cables in trefoil formation in both laid direct and ducted installations for use as transformer tails:
300mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 82mm2 aluminium wire screen;
500mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 82mm2 aluminium wire screen;
630mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 82mm2 aluminium wire screen;
1000mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 82mm2 aluminium wire screen;
1200mm2 aluminium single core XLPE cable with 82mm2 aluminium wire screen.

3 Details
3.1 Current Rating Table for Single Core 11kV Transformer Tail Cables
This table provides a guide to the current ratings for 11kV single core XLPE cables laid in trefoil formation. All the ratings quoted are Distribution Ratings for one single core transformer tail only and are calculated in accordance with Engineering Recommendation P17. The MVA ratings are for a three-phase supply. Ratings for multiple cable circuits should be calculated individually. Appendix A of this document provides ratings for the more commonly used types of installation:
