    Blogging activity for motion photography unit

    Course

    Photography (grades 9-12). Class size 12-16 students.

    Learning Objectives

    By the end of the unit, the student will be able to:1. Capture photographs using the blur, stop action, and panning techniques.2. Post the photographs to their own photography blog.3. Provide meaningful feedback to his/her peers regarding the techniques.4. Respond to feedback on their own blog.

    Blog Types

    Each student manages his/her own photography blog. This blog serves as a place for the student to postpictures that best show their skills development throughout the course. Blog posts that will be producedthroughout the semester include composition, lenses, depth of field, Photoshop and editing, motion study,studio work and a final project. For the purposes of this unit, students will complete their project by posting theirbest motion study photographs to the blog.

    Process

    1. Research blur, stop motion and panning techniques with a partner.2. Complete guided notes worksheet.3. Take photographs using the three techniques.4. Download photographs.

    5. Determine which photographs are the best examples of each technique.6. Post photographs to personal photo blog.7. Comment on at least three (3) other blog posts.8. Respond to comments on own blog.

    Assessment

    Student work will be assessed using the following rubric:

    Timeline

    Students will have one class period to learn about the three techniques and take notes on the guided notesworksheet. Students will have four class periods to take photographs. Students will have one class period toselect and post photographs to blog. Students will complete commenting from home no later than day 8.
