WHAT IS CONVERGENCE?

An article on The Importance of Technology (n.d) states that technology is important in life because it is the only economic force that is guaranteed to move in a forward direction. Furthermore technology has evolved over the years to make work easier especially in education. This has happened due to technological entities converging.

EDTK2030: Unit 1, 2014, p states that’s convergence is a process whereby discrete elements come together to unite and produce a single system. The unit further states that convergence took place when digital media, telecommunications and computer technology came together to produce ICT. According to Flew (2005) ICT, emerges from a process of convergence to combine digital networking, global reach, interactivity and “many to many communication”.

DESCRIPTION OF USING MEDIA TO TEACH

Topic: Ordinal Numbers

Objective: Students will be able to identify the ordinal numbers first to fifth.

The interactive whiteboard and the laptop will be used to introduce the lesson through a story. The pictures and words from the story will be seen on the screen (visual) and the recording of the video will be heard from the laptop speakers (audio). Students will be able to follow the story together as a whole class.

Students will then engage in activities where they will have to put the ordinal numbers learnt in the right order. Each student will be given a change to participate.

To conclude the lesson the students will go over the ordinal numbers learnt, this will be represented on the interactive whiteboard and the students will repeat the ordinals numbers. Students will sing the song five little pumpkins. The song will be played on the laptop and students will sing along to the song.
