knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.

Skill • An ability and capacity acquired through deliberate,
systematic, and sustained effort to smoothly and adaptively carryout complex activities or job functions involving ideas (cognitive skills), things(technical skills) and/or people(interpersonal skills).
Introduction• Human capital—defined as the “stock of economically
productive human capabilities” encompasses knowledge, health, skills, entrepreneurial talent, determination and other human traits that lead to success in endeavors.
• The capabilities are formed by combining innate abilities with investment in human beings.
• Human capital is obtained through general education and is transferable from one enterprise/endeavor to another.
• Skills are a subset of human capital specific to a particular task, job or enterprise and are obtained through specialized education or training, such as carpentry or dentistry.
• Education and training are sound investments for the individual, the employer, and the economy.

• From the study, It was established that there was a general shortage of qualified insurance professionals within the region.
• The following were identified as key training gaps:– Underwriting, claims management and financial management– Customer relationship management– Administration and supervisory– Analytical, reporting and presentation skills– Professional qualifications in life and micro insurance– Professional qualification in advanced IT studies– Leadership and public relations– Legal aspects of insurance administration e.g. labour laws– Insurance products training– Acute shortage of actuaries
