S.M. Inwood, Presenter and Co-Organizer. Rural Health-Economic Development Nexus

Workshop, April 26, 2018, Minneapolis, MN. Hosted by the North Central Rural Development

Center and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. One-day workshop on the nexus between

rural health and community economic development. The workshop will bring together 50 researchers

and outreach specialists with expertise in the health arena and the community economic development

arena with goal of encouraging collaborations across disciplines within the Land Grant University

system in the North Central region and beyond. Invitation only event.

● Assisting with conceptualization, planning and organization of Summit

● New collaborations formed at the meeting led to successful application for 2018 NC RDC

planning grant examining farm family mental health.

Northeast Rural Development Center Farmer Health Forum Grant. Team: V. Brown, B. Braun,

M. Pippidis, and S.M. Inwood.

The grant funded three one-day forums in Delaware, Maryland and Ohio. Our team collectively

planned each one. At each forum, I presented providing the research foundation for the forum. We

then organized interactive activates including state based case studies to allow for a process of self-

discovery and silo bridging across the health and agriculture sectors. Attendees were able to identify

issues related to health and health insurance in the farm sector. Our team invited USDA Rural

Development MD/DE to lead participants through a ‘strategic doing’ exercise to identify next steps.

This process resulted in concrete and effective outcomes identified below. The Ohio Forum is
