• Education is one of the most powerful instruments for reducing poverty and inequality. Education is equally key to enhance India’s competitiveness in the global economy.

Overall Picture

• Education is provided by public sector• Child education is Compulsory• 35% of population is still illiterate• Only 15% of Indian students reach high school• Just 7% graduate

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan • Government of India's flagship programme for

achievement of Universalization of Elementary Education

• Implemented in partnership with State Governments to cover the entire country and address the needs of 192 million children

Data from SSA• attendance rate of students was 68.5% and 75.7%

at primary and upper primary levels respectively.• the average attendance rate of teachers was

81.7% and 80.5% respectively in primary and upper primary schools.

• The attendance rate of girls was a little higher than that of boys.boys – 69%girls – 70.6%

• Out of 55, 45 were studying i.e. 81.82%.

• One helps father at his shop and other one helps in farming

• It can be interpreted that they allow their children to fully concentrate on study.

What do they expect their child to do in the future?

Their some of the aspirations were:

• Become engineer, Join Airforce, businessman, do a good job.

• As per the wish of their children.

Major outcomes

• 75% literacy rate .• People are ready to allow their children to

study higher education.• Govt. support• Fees are not constraint.• They wish their children not to continue their

traditional work i.e. farming and labor.
