    DEFINITION OF EDUCATION

Deliberate, systematic effort, made by a society to disseminate the knowledge, values,

attitudes and skills of its members, the effort to develop individual potential and the

    changes that occur in humans.

According to some learned people, the word "Education" has been derived from the Latin

term "Educatum" which means the act of teaching or training. A group of educationists say

that it has come from another Latin word "Educare" which means "to bring up" or "to

    raise".

According to a few others, the word "Education" has originated from another Latin term

"Educere" which means "to lead forth" or "to come out". All these meanings indicate thateducation seeks to nourish the good qualities in man and draw out the best in every

individual. Education seeks to develop the innate inner capacities of man.

Quran and the Hadiths explicitly emphasise the importance of education; in Islam

seeking education is obligatory for every Muslim, male and female. Indeed the acquisition

of knowledge and the use of this knowledge for the betterment of humanity is seen as a

    THE USE OF THE KNOWLEDGE

Not just to learn for the sake of learning

The goal should not to be left on children. They are too young to come up

with one. You have to help them.

If you dont specify the goal, they will make some mean or cheap goals

    Allama Iqbal says:

Knowledge gives power. This power should be under Deen. Otherwise it ispure Satanic. A Muslim must Islamize his knowledge.

    CURRENT SITUATION

We have two streams of education

    Deeni / Madrassa Education

    Secular / School Education

  • 8/13/2019 Education Night

    19/34

    DEENI / MADRASSA EDUCATION.

    Mostly out-of-date with current situation

Originally designed for producing civil servants (in

Muslim rule); that is why living in India, you dont find any

    syllabus for Dawah; or how to live and interact withothers in a multi-cultural society;

Generates 1000s of Huffaz but not even 1% know what

they have memorized! Yes, their contribution is immense. Especially in the

    absence of any alternative

    SECULAR / SCHOOL EDUCATION

Has no link with Islamic education.

A subject (on Islamic Studies) is there but it is confined

mostly to beliefs, worship, and morals.

Nothing to do with the concept of knowledge. Nothing

to relate oneself with other subjects.

    SECULAR EDUCATION

Students are taught Science, maths, social studies, politics,

history, law, management, economics, etc. etc. but no where do

    you see any Islamic perspective.

The one who has money and positions is the successful one(Media, culture)

Result: The whole life is built along non-Islamic lines.

So, we need to work more to save our generation

Especially in the light of TV/Internet and media

    onslaught against Islam and Muslims

stress on active learning on their learners

Student appear as active learners in the classroom, as the teaching and

learning process not focusing on teacher-centered, but more on are activelearners in the classroom.

It encourages the students to be active in giving and sharing the ideas, which

is maximizing their role as a students than the teacher in creating the

    THE WAYS OF TEACHING PROCESS

roles of students are recognized, by giving them the rights and respects

within the teaching and learning process itself

They have the freedom and rights to take charge of their own learning, as

they are given the opportunity and freedom to manage their own learning

process. the teachers play their role as a facilitator than the knowledge producer to

    their students.

Teachers are responsible to help and guide the students in their learning

process rather than teaching them what to do

Teachers of the Western education do play a role in guiding students to
