In the report compiled by the Cost Verification Committee of Energy and Environment Council at the end of 2011, the nuclear power generation cost is the lowest numerically (reference material 1). However, it has not concluded that the cost is the lowest because there still remain some issues requiring further evaluation.On the other hand, it is estimated that electricity generation costs will increase by about 3 trillion yen a year if nuclear power plants stop operating, according to the reference material (material 2, p. 7) submitted to Energy and Environment Council on Sept. 4, 2012.

In the reference material (material 2, p. 6) submitted to Energy and Environment Council on Sept. 4, 2012, uranium resources will become renewable for several thousand years if fast breeder reactor cycle is realized in the future.

4. Results of the Awareness Survey on “Education on Energy and Environment”

1. Awareness survey started in FY 2007.Revised to the current format in FY 2009. In the third trimesters (January – March) of 6th grade of elementary school; and 3rd grade of junior high school.
