UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS ~Cherokee Nation Pell Scholarship Cherokee Nation tribal citizens who qualify for Federal Pell Grant funding regardless of permanent residence OR ~Cherokee Nation Scholarship Program Cherokee Nation tribal citizens who do not qualify for Federal Pell Grant funding: 1) Whose permanent residency is within the Cherokee Nation area, which is defined as counties within the Cherokee Nation boundaries; or 2) Whose permanent residency is within the contiguous counties to the Cherokee Nation boundaries (including contiguous counties in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma). Selection preferences: First Preference: Continuing students (Funded in ‘09 and ‘10); Second Preference: Classification order of new applicants (Senior, Junior, Sophomore, Freshman) by date of completed application; and Third Preference: Academic performance.

*Students are limited to 8 semesters of funding ~Cherokee Nation Pell Scholarship, and ~Cherokee Nation Scholarship Program *Up to $2,000 per semester as funding is available, effective Spring 2010 *Part Time Students’ awards are prorated **Students not awarded for scholarship funding will be placed on a waiting list. Students on the waiting list may be selected for scholarships as additional funding becomes available.

Cherokee Nation Higher Education Scholarship -Graduate

GRADUATE PROGRAMS ~Cherokee Nation Graduate Scholarship Cherokee Nation Tribal citizens seeking graduate degrees: 1) Whose permanent residency is within the Cherokee Nation area, which is defined as counties within the Cherokee boundaries, or 2) Whose permanent residency is within the contiguous counties to the Cherokee Nation boundaries, (including contiguous counties in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma) *Selection Preferences: Same as Undergraduate

*Students are limited to 6 semesters of funding) **Undergraduate applications will be funded first.

Registered Nursing Scholarship

-Must be accepted to the Nursing Program -Must be a full-time student -If not in program, must have Letter of Acceptance to the Program -Must be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation -Must be a resident of the fourteen-county jurisdictional area or

contiguous counties -Must agree to attend meetings as a cohort group as scheduled by the

Cherokee Nation Education Department -Must submit official transcripts at the end of each semester. -Must maintain academic requirements of the program. -Must sign an agreement to work for Cherokee Nation Health Facility

for two years after graduation, effective Fall 2010.

Selection Criteria: A. 2nd year students* (*Bridge program for

EMT or LPN students) B. 1st year students C. Accepted at entry level D. Points Sheet

Cherokee Nation agrees to pay (at a limited rate):

A. Tuition B. Books C. Fees D. Required Equipment (limited-

uniform(s), shoes, stethoscope), Pre-Test, Post Test, License Fees, once accepted to the program

Deadline for applications-45 Days prior to first nursing class or orientation. *Registered Nursing Scholarships are highly competitive with no guarantee you will receive an award. Please continue your efforts to obtain financial aid from other sources.

Directed Studies Scholarship Program

-Must be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation -Must be a resident of the fourteen-county jurisdictional area or

contiguous counties (See Map) -Must be a full time student. -Must be accepted in a Professional, Masters or upper level Bachelor’s

Program/School. -Must have an approved major degree plan on file. -Medical Field Degrees are encouraged to apply for the Indian Health

Services Scholarship. -Must submit official transcripts at the end of each semester. -Must maintain a grade point average that is in good standing with

school. -Must attend the Cherokee Summer Institute as required. -Must sign a contract to work for Cherokee Nation for two years after

graduation

Selection Criteria: A. Students in Professional Schools

B. Students Accepted in Master’s Level Program

C. Students with Bachelor’s Degree Plan on File

D. Grade Point Average E. At Least 60 College Credit Hours

with Admission to Degree Program

F. Cherokee Nation will assist with the following (at a limited rate):

(University Housing Only)

e. Required Equipment (limited)

Cherokee Scholars (Students MUST first qualify for Oklahoma Scholars)

~Must be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation ~Must be a resident of the fourteen-county jurisdictional area (Three

Categories of recognition based on residency.) ~Must be a high school student. (Public, Private or Home School). ~Must complete the Scholars Course of Study ~Must submit official transcript(s) with application. ~Must pass each course with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, and graduate

from high school. ~Must apply by July 31, same year as High School graduation.

Categories of Recognition (based on residency and completion of all

requirements) ~Residing within the 14-county Cherokee Nation jurisdictional area: -Named Cherokee Nation Scholar and Oklahoma Scholar, t-shirt, medallion, scholarship ~Residing in Oklahoma: -Named Cherokee Nation Scholar and Oklahoma Scholar, t-shirt and medallion ~Residing outside Oklahoma: -Named Cherokee Nation Scholar, t-shirt and medallion

July 31, of the applicants’ High School graduation year.

Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI)

-Students must be accepted into the program by contacting Cherokee Nation SIPI coordinator. -Students must have a CDIB from a federally recognized tribe. -Courses offered vary by semester -Courses are offered online and/or two-way videoconferencing (ITV)

-College courses are provided at no cost to eligible students -Required textbooks are provided

-Deadline varies per semester -Students MUST contact the Cherokee Nation SIPI Coordinator, prior to enrollment
