EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES The capacity of the hospital is 125 beds:- twenty-five of these are located in the new private pavilion, the remainder are distrib- uted in the men's, women's and children's wards, Services are given in medicine, surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, ear, nose and throat and ophthalmology, The out patient department is comprised of 26 different clinics. During the past year over five thousand new cases were treated. Thus the student is given ample opportunity for study of the ambulatory patient. The physio-therapy department is equipped to give all types of treatment including hydrotherapy and diathermy. The department is in charge of a registered physio-therapist who instructs the students in theory before they receive their prac- tical training. Emphasis has been placed on bringing intothe home environment, activities which willgive the students opportunity for' socialgrowth. Under the guidance of the Educa-tional Director a definite plan has been made

for the creation and supervision of these activities.

EXTRACURRICULARACTIVITIES

TEACHINGSTAFF

The hospital employes two full time instruc-tors. The Educational Director lecturesin science, and organizes the curriculum, ar-ranges the class schedules, assists the super-

The Instructor of Nursing Arts instructs in nursing subjects,supervises the students in the work on the wards and arrangedand assists with ward clinics.

The medical aspects of nursing are taught by the StaffPhysicians. Diet Therapy and Physio Therapy are taught bythe heads of these departments.

Hobby hour runs in happy regularity as theHOBBIES nurses learn the many arts suggested in their

hobby show. The hour frequently ends bythe nurses having popcorn and apples around the large fireplace in the reception room.

The program is so planned that the three year course isdivided into four periods: preliminary, junior, intermediate andsenior.

The teaching methods of the school include: lecture, recita-tion, class room discussion, assigned reading, projects, patientstudies and ward symposium. The class rooms are wellequipped with charts, skeleton, life size manikin and models.Fresh specimens are also used whenever possible.

The course of instruction is based on thestandard curriculum for schools of nursingissued by the Educational Committee of theNational League of Nursing Education. Ais made on ward teaching for the student

The Glee Club was organized to sing carolsGLEE CLUB in the hospital wards at Christmas time and

has been continued to provide music for va-'ious school functions.

TENNISThe nurses enjoy the use of their own tenniscourt which is located on the hospitalgrounds.

SKATINGDuring the winter months the tennis courtsare made into an ice skating rink for thenurses and doctors.

Weekly gymnasium classes have proved toGYMNASIUM be fun as well as useful. The students have

the use of the physio-therapy departmentwith its special apparatus as well as the spacious recreation roomin the Nurses' Home.

SWIMMINGProvision has been made for nurses who -wishto swim to use the nearby Y. W. C. A. poolon e each week.
