POSITION TITLE Director of Youth Engagement FULL or PART-TIME Full-Time
❑ Director of Lifelong Jewish Learning (DoLJL) or Director of Lifelong Learning (DoLL)—Responsible for oversight
of virtually all education in the congregation; supervises all education and educational administration personnel When a congregation seeks to hire a DoLJL or DoLL, it should consider how the position will be appropriately supported with additional educational and administrative staff, all of whom would be supervised by the DoJLL or DoLL
❑ Director of Congregational Learning (DoCE)—Serves in an oversight capacity of the congregational school and
has other congregational education responsibilities (which may or may not include supervision in the area[s] of youth programming, adult education, early childhood, and / or other areas of education)
When a congregation seeks to hire a DoCE, it should consider how the position will be appropriately supported with additional educational and administrative staff, such as an Assistant Director of Congregational Education, all of whom would be supervised by the DoCE.

DIRECTOR OF YOUTH ENGAGEMENT

The Director of Youth Engagement is a full time, senior staff member and part of our Education leadership team. As a
member of our team, this person must be a strategic thinker, strong collaborator and inspirational leader. This new
position will give our Director of Youth Engagement a great deal of creative freedom and will incorporate managerial,
supervisory and administrative responsibilities with direct teaching and relationship building.
Our Youth Engagement Program will be: A well-supported, innovative program developed by the Director of Youth Engagement to inspire and engage our
middle- and high-schoolers. Kol Ami is committed to providing our youth with the opportunity, both inside and outside
the school setting, to connect, learn, socialize, and grow. Programs will support leadership development and instill in
them a strong Jewish identity.
Our Director of Youth Engagement will be:
A bright, motivated and talented professional who will develop, execute and promote diverse, innovative youth
programming, including both informal and formal educational opportunities. The Director will organize, recruit for and
lead a variety of travel programs and retreats for our youth.
A dynamic, dedicated role model and teacher. The Director will design curriculum for, administer and teach in our upper
school 7th through 12
th grade programs in addition to creating programming for and overseeing the activities of all Youth
Groups.
A leader and relationship builder. The Director will recruit new students into our youth programs, foster relationships
with currently engaged students and parents and create a bridge between our school and youth programs.
Inspired to work with youth. The Director will serve as a mentor to young people in our community and collaborate with
teens, clergy and parents to develop new initiatives.
The ideal candidate:
Has an advanced degree in education and/or Judaic studies and at least three years of experience in the field
Has excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Effectively sets priorities and manages multiple tasks
Brings new ideas and has the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Is familiar with the Hebrew language and Reform Jewish Liturgy and embraces a progressive Jewish environment.
Is passionate, disciplined, responsible, achievement oriented and fun loving!
This is a challenging position that brings with it tremendous opportunity. We seek reflective practitioners who are
committed to professional growth and who are looking for the chance to share a love for Judaism with all members of our
synagogue community. You will have the opportunity to shape our community and the future of our children.
This is a full time position which includes working with teens evenings, weekends and holidays. The ideal start date is
July 1, 2017. Salary range is $50-55K based on experience. Medical, dental and vision insurance included. The Director
of Youth Engagement reports to and is supervised by the Director of the Religious School, Felice Miller Baritz, in
collaboration with Rabbi Tom Weiner.

Kol Ami is truly a warm, welcoming community. Our membership comes from diverse backgrounds and from about 12 different Westchester communities. We’ve worked hard to create the environment where each individual can “find their own Jewish” What are the strengths of your educational program? Innovation and collaboration in curriculum, experiential and project based learning, award winning leadership and programming What three qualities in your Director of Youth Engagement are most important to the congregation/institution?
