Academy Preparation ProgramEdythe J. Hayes
What is Academy Prep?
● In elementary, these classes were referred to as specials. In middle school, these courses are called academy prep classes.
● The EJ Hayes Academy Preparation Program is designed to offer dynamic and engaging courses aligned with the various high school career academies, magnet schools, and special programs throughout Fayette County Public Schools.
6th Grade Year
In addition to math, science, social studies, and language arts (core classes), 6th graders will enroll in a rotation of academy prep courses from a variety of different content areas in the categories on the next slide. Most academy prep classes are 9 weeks long (1 term), but band, orchestra, chorus, and Advanced Spanish are year long (4 terms) classes.
7th and 8th Grade Year
Students will have more opportunities to select courses based on interest. By the end of middle school, students may be able to earn various certifications or even high school credit depending on the course.

Advanced Learning Program at Hayes!
The Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) offers advanced level courses to
students who qualify in Language Arts, Math, Science and/or Social Studies. Our
program is structured to allow a student to take accelerated courses in the
class(es) they demonstrate a significant strength, rather than an "all or nothing"
approach. ALP placement is determined by multiple measurement criteria
including MAP, KPREP, GT, IOWA, CogAT, as well as our own EJH placement test.
If your student does not yet qualify for ALP classes and you would like them to
take our placement test, please register to attend one of our June testing dates:
