Happy Dollars: Robert Gollnick - $3 – the “cows” are back. The city stole three of our cows and they have been returned. The “cows” were built by Bob and Sandi for Advertising the Cow Plop. This is the time of year I look at other people’s profit and it looks like everybody but me has been profiting this year. Cindy D’Agostino - $5 – one as you know I am retired. My husband bought me a new “something – I didn’t quite hear what that was. You’ll have to ask Cindy”; I bought myself a new I-phone; I won the 50/50; Doreen will be retiring in a couple of weeks and then they’ll be traveling Sandi Gollnick - $3 - for the convention which was very nice. The shopping was absolutely awesome. Even Bob shopped. He got new boots. For Doreen for Bringing the cows home. That would have been a lot of work if we had to rebuild them and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. Eileen - $1 - I’ve been kind of missing in action. It’s great to be back.

Service Leadership Programs: Ben Franklin K-Kids: They are having a “Pets” giving fundraiser dance on December 13. They are raising items for animals that were displaced by the recent hurricanes. Items will be donated to the Humane Society of Connecticut. They are also working on a school wide project. An Act of Kindness bulletin board and each student in the school filled out a Christmas light with an act of kindness that they have done and those will be hung around the school. John Barry K-Kids: The club is doing well and their next meeting is on December 5. Advisors have been working with club members on promoting kindness and doing random acts of kindness in the school and community At the December meeting they will be considering options for upcoming service projects. Roger Sherman K-Kids: Members are planning their January Souper Bowl Food Drive and will be planning the rest of the school year at their next few meetings. Advisors and officers found the SLP Installation and Training to be very helpful. Lincoln Builders Club: In October, the club raised and donated over $100 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support breast cancer research. They ran their annual food drive and collected many cans to help the local shelter, community and students at Lincoln Middle School. During the month of December, some members will participate in the Spirit of Giving, helping to deliver gifts to 5 families that have experienced some type of trauma. They recently finished cutting out Kiwanis Hospital Dolls out of muslin we provided last year. Washington Builders Club: They are dedicated to developing leadership through service to both the school and the community. The club started their year with a bake sale to support school initiatives to donate towards Puerto Rican hurricane relief efforts. The student members as well as the club advisors, math teacher Donna McBride and Special Education teacher, Rosemary Navickis, prepared sweet treats for the sale. Students and staff visited the bake sale throughout the day and donated money for the worthy cause. The bake sale raised $200 that will be donated to a Meriden non-profit’s relief efforts for Puerto Rico. This is the first of many special projects and fundraisers that the Washington Middle School Builder’s club will be participating in throughout this school year. The Builder’s Club also participated in the suitcase drive by having a “Slipper Day on November 15 and will donate the proceeds to Kiwanis for their drive. Platt Key Club: Platt Faculty Advisor Maureen DiPace advised she has members involved in an anti-bullying theater production and other school-wide events.

What’s Happening:

President-elect Cindy D’Agostino poses with the newly-installed Kiwanis Club of Meriden bench on the Meriden Linear Trail. Kiwanis raised funds

for the bench during Pierre Blanchet’s term as President through a special Presidents Project. We hope the many trail-goers enjoy a respite on the new

bench! Be sure to look for it near the entrance to the trail that goes along Hanover Pond.

SUITCASE DRIVE:

JoAnne Keene reports that the Suitcase drive has been completed with great success. One December 13th, Cindy D’Agostino, Martha Colaresi and

JoAnne Keene delivered to Julia Davis at the Department of Children and Family Services 15 filled suitcases/duffel bags along with an additional 14

empty bags and a box of extra toiletries and blankets. Upon arrival we met with Julia and her colleague and we all unloaded the bags into a waiting

elevator. Unfortunately we didn’t have room for a good picture of everything. Items donated were: 29 suitcases/duffel bags, 18 blankets, 15 bath

towels, 15 wash cloths, 13 toothpastes, 29 tooth brushes, 8 toothbrush/paste travel kits, 3 nail kits, 15 combs, 1 package hair bands, 8 tissue packs, 5 bath
