2018 JUDGING RESULTS
These members participated in our Ribbon Judging Program. Thank you for your participation and we hope you continue to bring in your beautiful orchids again next year. We also encourage other members to participate and bring in their orchids. The more orchids, the better selection our members get to see and appreciate.
By each red Category, there is a + or – (number), which tells you the increase or decrease in people who participated in bringing in orchids of that Category from the previous year. Notice that we had negative numbers in 7 Categories, and a positive number of people in 4 Categories! We’ve decreased our Member’s participation in the judging program by 4 persons from the previous year! VERY BAD!! We encourage our new members to be proud of their accomplishment of blooming their orchids, by bringing them in to our judging program. We can also offer tips that might help you grow better, healthier orchids. Just ask us!
Below each Category, the red Name is the winner of total points received throughout the year in that category. The points are to the right of the names of our members who participated. Tie-breakers are awarded to the person with the most TOTAL POINTS. Orchids that are brought in & registered for judging, can receive 5 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd, or 0 points. Orchids that are brought in to Our Show and are properly registered, receive double points to encourage participation.
If you are bringing a plant for the first time, we will be happy to help you register your orchid for judging. Our judging starts at 7:30, just before our meeting starts, so get there early so we can finish before the beginning of the meeting. Please leave the judging area and go socialize so our judges can get to work. Thank you, and we hope to see you and your orchids next year. East Everglades Orchid Society appreciates and thanks all of our Judges who help and make our program possible. Thank you!

2019 Judging We start off the new year with new orchids and hopefully, new members bringing in their orchids to be judged. Here are some helpful hints to display your orchids for our judges, and most of all, for your enjoyment and to share with other members your expertise of growing and blooming orchids.
Make sure you bring your orchids and register them on time. Judging begins at 7:30, before the main meeting. Please fill out an entry form for each orchid you enter. It should include the correct name of the orchid and your name. Please PRINT THE ORCHID’S AND YOUR NAME SO WE CAN READ IT!! VERY IMPORTANT!!! Please Leave the judging area so our judges can get busy and maybe they can enjoy the speaker when the meeting starts.
Clean your orchid of dead leaves, debris, etc.., and stake the flowers so they are displayed in a pleasing manner.
Make sure you orchid has the correct name tag in the pot. Orchids cannot be judged without a name!
Plants with blooming flowers and closed buds should have OVER 50% of their flowers open.
Orchids should be in your possession for around 6 months. Make sure YOU bloomed your orchid, not WAL-MART or HOME DEPOT!
Don’t bring your blooming orchid in if it was judged the month before, on the same bloom.
Make sure your orchids are healthy and insect-free. No ants! Ants help spread scale. No thrips, either.
Make sure there are no snails. One snail can destroy your blooms overnight!
If you bring in a hybrid orchid with both parents listed in the name, it means your orchid hasn’t been given a new name, or else it has and you don’t have the name. We look up these orchids and if it has a new name, we will put it in the judging results. Write your orchid’s new name down on a tag and put it in the pot.
See you next meeting and bring in your blooming orchids so we can share your beauties with our members.
