Perseverance:
Perseverance plays an important part in being successful in many aspects of life. Persistence is doing
something even if it is hard, difficult or takes a lot of time to achieve success. It is a virtue that we have and
use so we overcome obstacles as we try again and again.
Halfway through Term 2 and the weather is setting in and it is wet, wet, wet. Luckily the
students were not here on Friday 29 May as the staff needed their wellies and raincoats
during the downpour. We really hope our parents had an enjoyable extra long weekend,
stayed safe and dry!
Pirate Day was Friday 22 May 2020 and the school was overrun by the giggles, delights and
arrrggghhhh me hearties. Together we raised $129.15 that will help towards research for
children with brain cancer. We joined together (but practice physical distancing) after lunch
to play ‘Shop to Shore’, joined in with a pirate quiz and some joke telling. Funds raised
through 2020 Pirate Day will be directed specifically to a study lead by Associate Professor
Joshua McCarroll, Team Leader of the Gene Therapeutics and Drug Delivery group at
Children’s Cancer Institute and the Australian Centre for Nanomedicine, UNSW. For more
information see https://www.pirateday.com.au/
National Stimulus Storytime was on Wednesday 27 May 2020 and children across Australia
participated in reading ‘Whitney & Britney, Chicken Divas’ by Lucinda Gifford. National
Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information
Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author
and illustrator, is read simultaneously around the country. Now in its 20th successful year, it is a
colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using
an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes.
STEAM Week. This week the children worked through all matters Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. There were planes, boats, construction, teddies,
challenges and so much more. We would love to see some photos of the creations made
from the STEAM goodie items we sent home on Thursday.
I look forward to seeing all the children bringing in their
wheeled mode of transport (bike, scooters, skateboard,
skates, etc) on Wednesday 3 June for World Bicycle Day.
Please remember each child needs their own helmet.
So please be safe, be kind and be yourself.

Wildlife Winners
by Riddhi
Hi. Today we're going to talk to you about a community group
we have started. It is called the Wildlife Winners. What we do is
help animals and wildlife.
One thing you can do to help is be waste free. How to do
that? Easy! In your lunchbox you can, instead of using cling
wrap to wrap your sandwich, use a washed cloth or wax
wrap. What you can also do is use compartments of your
lunchbox to store small snacks like fruits and vegetables. Another thing you can do is not
bringing plastic bags to the shops. All you need to do is make your own t-shirt bag.
