Background

• Salford City Council run 10 Monthly payrolls

• Total staff numbers are in the region of 11,000 employees

• Prior to purchasing the “Audit & Compliance Tool” we relied

on a combination of SAP standard exceptions, wage type

reports and Ad-Hoc queries

• These different reports were all exported to Excel and saved

on the respective team drives

• This was time consuming and difficult to administer

• A system was needed whereby all of the exceptions were in

one place, and actioned from a single transaction

• Workbench provides a ‘one stop shop’ for all exceptions.

• Easy to use

• Initial concerns of end-users were soon dispelled after a few

months• Encourages more regular audit before and after the pay run• Text ‘Notes’ provide an explanation of exceptions for

managers/auditors• Traps many of the exceptions before the pay run• Increases confidence in the payroll data• Enables users to manage exceptions for own specific area of

responsibility

Compliance Tool

Capture - HCM reporting requirements are captured in easy-to-understand and easy-to-create rules.

Investigate - From the workbench, users drill directly into SAP

Master-, Payroll-, and Organizational-data. Warnings, errors, triggers are highlighted.

Action - All changes to transaction and data are executed from the workbench (through PA30).

Record - Users record the rationale for actions (explain the conclusion of the warnings, errors, and triggers).

Audit - Auditors see the entire history. The 5-Ws for all that was reported, investigated, and executed (or not executed).

Visualize - Management has a dashboard to visualize the

results from the PA/PY workbench. A graphical overview of the

numbers of errors and warnings and the progress that has

been made in the resolution of those issues.
