    eDUcation Has cHangeD very mUcH in last few DecaDes. witH tHe HelP of moDern tecHnologies tHe tools tHat are UseD for teacHing / learning / sHaring Processes inflUence How we now learn anD eXPerience oUr sUrroUnDings. altHoUgH new tecHnologies grows very fast, tHe BUilDings for eDUcational neeDs (sPecially Universities), Dont grow so fast. tHis is very visiBle also in my coUntry litHUania, wHere a lot of Universities were BUilt in soviet Union times. tHe iDea of a comPleX from tHe last centUry UseD By fUtUre generations insPireD me to analyse toPic of Universities.

    sPecifically tHe iDeas aroUnD a meDical facUlty insPireD tHe most, Partly BecaUse of its interesting anD sPecial neeDs. transition in tHe way of teacHing/learning in tHis area Has cHangeD a lot in recent years.

    tHere is a PossiBility to Have sUcH meDical facUlty in litHUania in tHe coming years. University of vilniUs Has Been BUsy for several years PreParing a ProJect for a new facUlty. tHis fact encoUrageD me to tHinK aBoUt tHe ProJect wHere new ways of learning anD sHaring is DesigneD in vilniUs.

    tHe aim of tHe ProJect was to Design a facUlty in sUcH a way tHat it sHoUlD Be insPirational anD a meeting Place for stUDents anD Professionals, for locals anD for visitors.

    aUDitoriUm Zone is tHe area wHere main entrance is DesigneD. on tHe groUnD level it is lo-cateD on tHe main circUlation veins (soUtH / nortH green Zone Direction, PUBlic transPort stoP from tHe nortH siDe/ access from tHe resiDential area). tHe BUilDing is lanDeD on tHe groUnD level in two transParent volUmes. one of tHem is main entrance to tHe facUlty, anotHer one is entrance to tHe conference centre. conference centre is DesigneD for Users not of tHe meDical facUlty (altHoUgH coUlD Be UseD By it), BUt for all tHe camPUs anD PeoPle oUtsiDe of tHe camPUs as it Has caPacity of 400 seats anD coUlD Be UseD for Different occasions. tHose two Zones are connecteD UnDergroUnD wHere canteen is lo-cateD as well. in tHis way canteen is oPen anD easily aPProacHaBle for all Different Users of tHe area.

    anotHer imPortant noDe is on tHe 2nD level. tHis level is tHe one tHat Unites all tHe strUc-tUre anD it is main circUlation Zone of tHe BUilDing. Here two striPs of Different facUlties are UniteD. in tHe miDDle of tHis noDe tHe main aDministration of tHe facUlty is locateD, as it is most easily reacHaBle By all Users of tHe strUctUre.

    eacH DePartment Has its own entrance anD at tHe same time is connecteD witH tHe wHole strUctUre on tHe toP/ circUlation floor (main internal continUoUs connection tHroUgH tHe all BUilDing). tHose two floors are PineD By tHe continUoUs seQUence of tHe stairs. tHose stairs nicely connects eacH floor anD sUB floor maKing all tHe DePartment sPace visUally continUoUs anD interactive.

    tHe main Program of tHe DePartment floor are Zone for laBoratories. it is DesigneD on tHe first anD seconD floors in Between BUilDing legs. on tHe first floor researcH laBs are locateD, on tHe seconD floor tHose are for teacHing (as it is more close to tHe main circUlation sPace of tHe facUlty). tHese Zone is marKeD By Dimensions 3,6m, as it is tHe most efficient Unit for tHe laB. on tHese aXis all tHe neeDeD connections anD installa-tions are PlaceD. in tHis way all Zone coUlD Be DiviDeD to rooms witH Different siZes, start-ing witH 7,2m enDing all tHe Zone (DePenDing on reQUirements). in tHis Zone tHe ceilings are 4,6m HigH anD not covereD By any sUsPenDeD ceilings. all installations are Hanging oPenly.

    on tHe siDe of tHe laBs tHere is more vertically oPen sPace(main DePartment circUlation sPace). on tHe otHer siDe of tHis Zone tHere is writing UP Zone. Here small offices are locateD for tHe scientists, PHD stUDents, laB worKers, stUDents from teacHing laBs (tHeir writing UP Zone). tHis Zone is narrow, altHoUgH very mUcH orientateD to tHe green sPace oUtsiDe. so yoU Have yoUr own small office witH tHe nice view.

    otHer tyPe of sPaces in DePartment area are meetings anD seminar rooms. tHose sPaces witH PossiBle Different layoUt are Hanging in tHe miDDle Part of DePartment. on tHe toP floor DePartment aDministration is locateD. Here in tHe miDDle Part yoU coUlD finD meet-ing rooms anD DePartment liBrary as well. stUDents Have tHeir own corner in tHis sPace. on tHe roof strUctUre level, concentration rooms are DesigneD (tHe same PrinciPle as in tHe aUDitoriUm Zone). eacH DePartment on tHe siDes in levels 1-2.5 Has long anD narrow Hanging oUt sPaces. tHese sPaces are at tHe same time DiviDing DePartment from DePart-ment anD at tHe same time connecting By informal fUnction to stay tHere anD enJoy tHe sUrroUnDings.
