1. Introdution to the UN-REDD Programme

to create a 0nancial )alue for the car$on stored in forests5 o4ering incenti)es forde)eloping countries to reduce e%issions fro% forested lands and in)est in lo*-car$on paths to sustaina$le de)elop%ent, 9&E''; goes $e"ond deforestation andforest degradation5 and includes the role of conser)ation5 sustaina$le %anage%entof forests5 and enhance%ent of forest car$on stoc+s,

(he United Nations olla$orati)e Progra%%e on &educing E%issions fro%'eforestation and Forest 'egradation in 'e)eloping ountries 7the UN-&E''Progra%%e8 *as launched in Septe%$er 2##< to assist de)eloping countriesprepare and i%ple%ent national &E'' strategies5 and $uilds on the con)eningpo*er and expertise of the Food and =griculture >rgani?ation of the United Nations7F=>85 the United Nations 'e)elop%ent Progra%%e 7UN'P85 and the United Nations
