PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Aloha!

It has been a busy first quarter. Time has just flown by! We appreciate your participation in all of our Parent Connection and Hui events. This year we begin the conversion to the Com-mon Core standards. Our grade K-2 teachers began working on the conversion during the summer and have begun the implementation of their curriculum with their students.

Student Led Conferences will begin next week on October 24th and end on November 4th. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher, it is not too late to make an appointment.

During Safety week we practiced out safety procedures with the students and new staff, as well as talked to them about safety practices. Our school evacuation went smoothly and we were able to move over 650 students to the district park and back without incident.

Please note that mililaniuka.com is no longer the school website and is a private business site. We are now at: www.mililaniuka.org.

Lastly, thank you to our parent and community donors who have observed needs for our school and have donated funds, supplies and equipment to meet these needs. Also thank you to our wonderful volunteers! We are so fortunate to have so many caring parents and community partners at Mililani Uka Elementary.

Much Aloha,

Heather Wilhelm, Principal

Military Partnership ProgramMililani Uka kicked off this year’s partnership program with the 84th Engineer Battalion from Schofield Bar-racks by having military readers in Kindergarten and First Grade on September 23rd. The soldiers shared books on safety to close out our Safety Week and discussed citizenship to the kick-off of the CHARACTER COUNTS! Pillar of Citizenship.

Get Moving, Get Fit DayOn Wednesday, September 28 additional soldiers from the 84th Engineers turned out to help with the Get Moving, Get Fit program. They led the students in warm up exercises, and assisted at the dance, obstacle and water relay stations.

Our parent volunteers aided in the smooth running of the 12 stations that let the Uka students get moving in fitness related activities over the course of the morning event. Parent and mili-tary interaction with out students promotes healthy lifestyles and respect and support for our local military in the Uka Community. We are blessed to have such wonderful volunteers supporting our school and students!

Additional parent and staff volunteers supplied healthy, delicious refreshments to feed our military and parent volunteers lunch. Students enjoyed lunch time with the soldiers and parents who could stay.
