Nile River – Egyptian river from

which the wealth and power of the Egyptian civilization depended upon. Gave fertile land for agriculture, transportation and trade. These are known as the “Gifts of the Nile.”

Nile Delta

– The area in which the Nile empties into the Mediterranean Sea. The largest area of fertile land in Egypt.

– Egyptian burial practice where the body is prepared, through rituals, for the afterlife.

Papyrus:

-reed plant used for making baskets, sandals, and paper-like writing material.

- province in ancient Egypt ruled by a warrior or noble.

glorified as a god.

– Ancient Egyptian form of writing.

Rosetta Stone:

The stone tablet that helped to decipher early Egyptian writings.

Imhotep– Chancellor of Egypt during the pharaoh Djoser’s reign. He was the founder of the Egyptian system of medicine, and architect (supervised the construction of the world’s first stone building).

Hatshepsut

– A female ruler of Egypt. Known by historians as the first powerful female leader. Ruled over a period of peace, stability and prosperity.

Tuthmosis III –

Step son of Hatshepsut. Also known as the “Napoleon of Egypt” due to his military campaigns.

Akhenaton

– Pharaoh who worked to create a monotheistic religion for Egypt.

– The boy pharaoh, whose tomb was later found with all riches still in tact.

– Pharaoh during the twilight years of Egypt, built massive monuments and temples.
