Gulf Air's restructured Boeing and Airbus fleet

billion6 .7orders total USD Gulf Air announced, on the first day of the Bahrain International

Airshow 2016, restructured orders of 45 aircraft with Boeing and

Airbus in deals worth a combined total of USD 7.6 billion. The

orders consist of 16 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, 17 Airbus

A321neo and 12 Airbus A320neo aircraft.

The deliveries of these aircraft will commence from Q2 2018.

The orders follow extensive negotiations with both aircraft

manufacturers to revise Gulf Air's previous orders with Boeing

and Airbus . The restructured orders will simplify Gulf Air's future

wide-body fleet to Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and ensure its

future narrow-body fleet will largely focus on A320neo Family

aircraft.

KLM’s flights from Oslo to be powered by new

.biofuelThis spring, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will start a new series of

flights from Oslo to Amsterdam powered by biofuel. The biofuel

forms part of an ITAKA* project, providing sustainable fuel for

worldwide’s first biojet supply via hydrant system at Oslo Airport.

The biojet supply is funded by the European Commission and

.SkyNRGbyfacilitated

With effect from today, biofuel will for the first time be available

via hydrant instead of the usual refuelling truck and will use the

existing infrastructure at Oslo airport. This is the result of

cooperation between Air BP and Avinor, the Norwegian airport

operator at Oslo Airport Gardermoen.

The biofuel flights are part of KLM’s initiatives to reduce its CO2

emissions. As ITAKA’s launching customer, I’m delighted to

confirm that KLM plans to continue its involvement with ITAKA by

using the new biofuel in Oslo. After cooperating previously with

ITAKA within the scope of a series of biofuel flights from

Amsterdam to Bonaire in 2014, KLM will use this fuel this spring

to initiate a new series of flights from Oslo to Amsterdam. The

flights will be operated using KLM Cityhopper’s Embraer

190sInka Pieter, Director CSR & Environmental Strategy at KLM

In addition to using biofuel from the hydrant system, some of the

biofuel for KLM will be delivered by refuelling trucks. In

cooperation with Embraer, biofuel efficiency will be assessed in

comparison with kerosene. KLM previously conducted similar

tests in cooperation with Boeing and Airbus.

(Continue)KLM’s current aim is to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% in 2020

(compared to 2011 levels) through fleet renewal, using

sustainable biofuel and increasing flight efficiency. KLM is best in

class when it comes to fuel efficiency and is leading in using

sustainable biofuel.

The flights have also been made possible by the partners of the

Corporate BioFuel programme, which this week expanded

. The corporations that participate in the include ABN AMROto

KLM Corporate BioFuel Programme pay a surcharge that covers

the price difference between sustainable biofuel and traditional

kerosene. This investment is fully utilised by KLM to purchase

sustainable biofuel, which is added to the fuel pumped into KLM

aircraft at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and elsewhere, like Oslo.

Consequently, the participating corporations reduce CO2

emissions resulting from their business travel, but also contribute

to the further development of the biofuel market.

companies, was established to produce sustainable biofuel for use in aviation. ITAKA is a cooperative project funded by the European Commission. The project aims to produce sustainable, renewable jet fuel and to test its use in existing logistics systems and during regular flight operations within Europe.

Cargo market weakness drives Boeing to reduce

production8 -747Boeing will reduce the production rate of the 747-8 to 0.5 aircraft

per month—or just six per year—starting in September 2016,

citing softness in the global air cargo market.

The 747-8 is now being produced at the rate of 1.3 aircraft per

month and the rate was previously slated to drop to one per

month in March.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Ray Conner

said in a statement that the ―air cargo market recovery that began

in late 2013 has stalled in recent months and slowed demand for

.‖freighter8 -747the

Boeing Commercial Airplanes VP-marketing Randy Tinseth said,

―The 747-8 and its future are tied to the cargo marketplace, and

frankly this is a market that’s been up and it’s been down over

the last few years. Unfortunately, in the middle of 2015 that

market started to soften.‖

He added that the ―lower rate … allows us to capture the [slower]

growth in the market we expect over the coming years. In

addition, it allows us to bridge to an upcoming replacement cycle

of older 747 aircraft … Today there are more than 200 old 747

freighters in operation. The 747-8 is the perfect replacement for

those aircraft and the replacement cycle should begin later this

decade.‖

Boeing Commercial Airplanes will take an $885 million pre-tax

charge tied to the 747-8 rate slowdown. ―The earnings charge

will not affect the company’s 2015 revenue or cash flow,‖ Boeing

said.

is due to receive its —Swiss International Air Lines—launch customer

initial CS100 in the first half of 2016.

―We were supposed to receive the first aircraft in December 2013,‖

Gulf Air’s acting CEO Maher Salman Al Musallam said as the Bahrain

International Air Show opened. ―We’re supposed to be the launch

customer in the Middle East—that’s how they are referring to us.‖

―We are going to meet with them very soon to look thoroughly

through the contract [and at] the regional jet concept that led Gulf Air

into buying the CSeries. This concept needs to be studied completely

… whether it’s going to be viable for Gulf Air to continue to

renegotiate a delivery date with Bombardier or something else.‖

He anticipated a decision would be made around March.

When development of the CSeries began it had promised around a

20% fuel saving on the Airbus A320 family, Al Musallam noted.

However, Airbus was now introducing the modernized, re-engined

A320neo, which it said would deliver a 16%-17% improvement in fuel

costs on its predecessor.

Gulf Air operates two Airbus types, the single-aisle A320/321 and the

twin-aisle A330-200, with a fleet size of 28 aircraft. It announced

major orders for the A320/321neo, plus an amended order for the

Boeing 787-9 earlier this week.

―I don’t know, as a small airline, whether we are able to operate a

third type or not. This is a big decision,‖ Al Musallam said.

Invest for €100,000 ($108,756), subject to regulatory clearances

and other conditions.

Slovenian Sovereign Holding (SSH) and Bad Asset Management

Co. (BAMC) hold the Adria Airways shares on behalf of the state.

In a statement issued on Jan. 19, SSH and BAMC said they have

signed a ―share purchase and sale agreement‖ with 4K Invest,

after the investor offered the best bid for the airline.

―At the general meeting of shareholders of Adria Airways on Jan.

19, 2016, this transaction was put into execution,‖ they said. ―The

capital increase and the sale process are expected to be

completed in the following few months.‖

Under the deal, Adria Airways will undergo a €4.1 million capital

increase. Slovenia will contribute €3.1 million to this total,

boosted by a further €1 million from 4K Invest.

SSH and BAMC said Adria Airways has been facing business

and financial problems for ―quite some time.‖ However, it added

that Slovenia’s share of the capital increase is lower than

estimated and cheaper than Adria Airways declaring bankruptcy,

which would trigger redundancies and result in unemployment

benefits. Adria Airways contributes around €10 million to the

national treasury in taxes alone.

flight, spent 280 minutes on the tarmac before continuing on to

its destination. Three of the other delayed domestic flights

originated from the New York metro area on Nov. 14; all were

affected by an equipment failure at New York City area airports,
