2. The Role of an EI provider is complex:

Evidence-based model of EI Traditional model

Promotion of competence and positive functioning

Treatment

Capacity-building: use existing abilities and develop new skills

Expertise of the professional to solve problems

Strengths-based Deficit-based

Resource-based: focusing on formal and informal supports within a community

Service-based: focusing on services provided only by the professional

Family-centered Professional-centered

(Dunst et al.)

Support the competence and confidence of parents and caregivers in promoting the learning and development of their infant or toddler within natural learning environments.

Evidence-based practices should guide the implementation of EI services for enhanced child and family outcomes

2. EI in NE CoP   Develop, implement, and evaluate a high-quality, evidence-based

in-service PD in EI.   PD is a key practice in order to increase the fidelity with which

evidence-based practices are utilized.   teaching and learning experiences that are transactional and

designed to support the acquisition of professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions as well as the application of this knowledge in practice

include the processes of coaching, performance feedback, and ongoing support

based on adult learning principles and geared toward actual change in practitioners’ behaviors and practice.
