  • Resident Profile -

Barb McMahon The highlighted resident for November has a birthday on the 9th. Barbara Jane Paris was born at home in Delaware County to Phil and Mildred (Maxwell)

Paris following three older brothers: Don, Russ, and Dean. She graduated from Manchester High School, then worked as a bank teller. She met her husband Harold McMahon (dec. 1996) through a mutual friend while roller skating at Beach Land and they enjoyed going dancing with friends. They married at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester on January 12, 1950. They farmed near Edgewood prior to purchasing a farm south of Masonville. They have 5 children: Matt (Liz) of Robins, Mark (dec. 1970), Mary (Al) Goos of Masonville, Monica (Nick) Schilling of Manchester, and Michelle (Dave) Hoefer of Masonville. Barb and Harold retired and moved to Manchester in 1988. She is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers (beautiful peonies), bird (and squirrel) watching, and treasure hunting at flea markets and garage sales which added to her enormous button collection. Favorite memories include spending time with great friends during couples’ card club, golfing, hosting ladies’ bridge card club, visiting the western US, wintering in TX, and traveling to Italy. Barb prides herself on being the grandma of 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Her house on the corner of Millam Heights and Prospect Street was the hangout for her local grandkids and their friends where she always had fresh baked cookies. She downsized to a house on Gay Street before enjoying The Meadows Assisted Living for 3 years prior to moving to Good Neighbor Home. Reading, watching movies, and visiting on the phone with family are her favorite pastimes. She enjoys any activity organized by her grand-daughter Alaina Lynch, especially music programs and Downton Abbey! Barb appreciates the care she receives from Good Neighbor Home staff and loves to visit with her neighbors. Congratulations and happy 91st birthday Barb!

    v. Trick or Treat!

Residents enjoyed a Halloween Costume Parade on Sunday, October 25. Children and grandchildren of GNS residents and staff were invited to put on Halloween costumes and walk outside of windows on campus. They stopped and waved to residents along the way before picking up a treat bag at the end of their walk.

Christmas Tree Lighting Save the date! Wed, Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. Drop-off a labeled, non-breakable ornament to Good Neighbor Home from now until the event. Contact Kristi Smith, Social Worker or Steve Werner, Operations Director with questions.

Offer thanks Unto the Lord. -2 Timothy 2:15

Meet New Patient Care Coordinator - Brooke Bach, RN Brooke is excited to be the new Patient Care Coordinator for Marietta’s Place and the north end of the Good Neighbor Home! She earned her LPN from Hamilton College and her RN from Kaplan University. Brooke also holds an associate’s degree in business from Kaplan University.

Brooke was born and raised in Coggon, IA. She still lives there on a farm with her husband, Charles, and their four children: Colton (19), Rylie (15), Bryar (10), and Drake (7). Brooke always said she was never going to marry a farmer, but here they are 15 years later raising cattle, growing crops, and caring for their five

horses. She especially enjoys watching her kids train and show their animals, especially when they win!

Brooke has worked within the Mercy Medical Organization for the past 13 years. She has nursing experience with long-term care, family practice, operating room, and labor and delivery, giving her a wide variety of knowledge on all stages of life. Brooke is a very energetic and outgoing person and excited to get to know and work with everyone here. Please join us in welcoming Brooke!

Christmas Wishes - Paris Schaul, Activity Professional With this year’s holiday season fast approaching, Good Neighbor Society can’t wait to celebrate Christmas! We still have wish tickets ready to be emailed to the community, so if you wish to help make Christmas special this year, contact Paris via email at [email protected] or by phone at 563-927-3907 ext. 309. After contacting Paris, she will e-mail you a Wish Ticket with all information you need to fulfill the resident’s wishes. Another great way to participate in the program is to donate giftwrap, bows, and gift boxes for us to beautifully wrap gifts! All wish tickets need to be taken, fulfilled, and returned by December 1st to the main office door. Thank you for your generosity and taking part in making Christmas special this year for our residents and your loved ones!

Employee Recognition For the month of November, we are pleased to announce Jerrilyn Crane as employee of the month. Jerrilyn is known for her optimistic, caring and determined personality. She is always teaching and sharing with others that “when it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.” Thank you Jerilyn for continuing to inspire others and for always embracing everything with grace. Thank you for all you do!
