Lucky chops is band that does not sing, but is only instruments. This band has percussion, baritone saxophone, tenor saxophone, trom-bone, trumpet, and sousaphone. This band was created in NYC in 2006. They travel all the continents playing music and regularly learning and teaching music for the next gen-eration of musicians. The band is fueled by energy and love of music and the love to share it with others. Josh Halcomb plays the trombone, Daro Behrooz tenor saxophone, Raphael Buyo sousaphone, Charles Sams percussion, Joshua Gawel trumpet. Listening to how this band plays is awesome. The instruments blend very well and sound amazing. They help other younger musicians to create the next generation of music. Lucky Chops is a great band to listen to and they play for a great cause. They have great time playing and it sounds tremendous. It is very delightful. This band is a great band to listen to. This is my favorite band, and it has a jazzy ring to it. I love listening to it and you should listen to it as well. I would give this 5/5 stars. I will also be listening to them in the future. Seth Wilson English- 1st period

Chris Ledoux is a famous Rodeo champion and country singer and songwriter. Born

Oct 2, 1948 in Biloxi Mississippi, by the time he was 13 he won his first Junior Rodeo. In 1970, Chris Ledoux became a Profes-sional Rodeo Cow-boy and in order to fund his travels he started writing al-bums and selling

them from the back of his truck. When he re-tired in 1984, he moved to a ranch in Kaycee Wyoming with his family to continue writing songs. He started playing at concerts and wrote more and more albums, he has 36 al-bums and his son Ned Ledoux has 10 al-bums. March 9, 2005 he died from a stroke in Casper Wyoming. I think Chris Ledoux is an amazing country writer, he is my favorite musician because of the way he writes about his life style. Some of my favorites are The Ride, Riding Fences, Stampede, God Must be a Cowboy, and West-ern Skies. His songs have great advice to like “Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your fore eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky, and live like you aint afraid to die, and don't be scared just enjoy your ride.” from The Ride. He was one of the last coun-try writers in my opinion, most country today is just pop with one acoustic guitar that you can’t even hear. I would give Chris Ledoux 5.1 out of 5 stars. In my opinion, Chris Ledoux is a astounding country writer and I think that if you're into country you should listen to him. Most advice I get is just horrible, but this is some of the best. When I listen to good classic country like his I get a feeling I can’t describe, and it reminds me of my family, the Millers. In con-clusion, I think he’s phenomenal country writ-er and singer, and one of the last great classic country writers. By: Ian M.

Billy Joel or William Martin Joel was born May 9, 1949. He is an American singer and song-writer. He also is a pianist. He was born in Bronx, New York. He was raised in Long Is-land, New York. These places had a heavy influence on his songs. Since releasing his first song called, "Piano Man", in 1973 Billy Joel has become the sixth best-selling recording art-ist and the third best-selling solo artist in the United States. According to Wikipedia his album is one of the bestselling albums in America. Billy Joel wrote a song called “Goodnight Saigon”. In this song, he sings about the battle of Saigon during the Vietnam War. At the start, you hear a noise like a helicopter and when it fades away, the piano begins. Although he did not serve in the Vietnam War he talks in a first person view ex-plaining how the soldiers met and what they did. Listening to the song, you can almost feel like you are there. I think Billy Joel’s song “Goodnight Saigon” is an education and amazing song. It is education-al because it explains the history of the Vietnam War in a catchy song. “Goodnight Saigon” is so amazing. He uses descriptive words and you feel like you are there fighting the battle. His voice is deep and soft at the same time. He plays his piano and it mixes perfectly with his voice. The song has a tone that starts as intense with a helicopter noise then it turns into a story with a sad tone. He talks of the men praying for their lives and he says at the end,” We will all go down together”. This shows the thoughts of how they were ready to fight together. Overall “Goodnight Saigon” is one of my favorite songs because it is and informational and amazing song. I would rate this song a ten out of ten for its catchy lyrics and for the deep tone of his voice. Also, it has many different pitches which I enjoy. Written by: Olivia Coulter

The band AC DC was first formed in November of 1973. The band consisted of Angus Young, Axl Rose, Brian Johnson, Bon Scott, Malcolm Young, Phil Rudd, Cliff Williams, Dave Evans, Stevie Young, Chris Slade, Mark Evans, George Young, Simon Write, Tony Currenti, Colin Burgess, Larry Van Kriedt, Rob Bailey, Peter Clack, Neil Smith, Noel Taylor, Russell Coleman, Ron Carpenter, and Paul Matters. A few of their songs are “Thunderstruck, Back in Black, TNT, Highway To Hell, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, For Those About To Rock, and Shoot To Thrill.” In the band there are slide guitars, bass guitars, vocals, drums, rhythm guitar, and lead vocals. Brian Johnson was the lead singer with Axel Rose and Bon Scott at his side as back up. Personally I love AC DC because of their loud boisterous music. Their loud drums, guitar, and growling voices all seem to go perfect together. In the song “Back In Black” they make great use of the bass guitar by using it as their main rhythm. Their lead vocals seem to almost be screaming which I think is very creative. In most of their songs they have a great guitar so-lo. Also in most other songs the melody is almost identical to their other songs, were with AC DC all of their rhythms are very different. Even though the band may look a bit funky, their music is incredible. No doubt about it AC DC is straight up good old rock. AC DC will always be known for their phenom-enal ten out of ten star rock and roll music. I’m sure that the next generation of kids and the next and the next will be listening to the won-derful AC DC that was listened to by the kids thirty years ago. Andrew Horsens

Florence-Carlton School would like to remind parents about the board policy regarding charging of school lunches and breakfast. Florence-Carlton School participates in the National School Lunch Program. Our lunch program offers students nutritionally balance meals daily. However, unpaid charges place a large financial burden on our Food Services Department. The purpose of this policy is to insure compliance with federal reporting re-quirements for the USDA Child Nutrition Pro-gram, and to provide oversight and accounta-bility for the collection of outstanding student meal balances. Board policy states “Full-Pay students–elementary, Middle School, and High School Students will pay for meals at the district’s published standard rate each day. A student will be allowed to charge a maximum of 3 meals to their account after their balance reaches zero. Once a student has charges those 3 meals, he/she will not be allowed to charge a la carte items, however he/she will be offered a designated menu alternate that will be charged to the student’s meal account at the standard rate. We are asking all parents to check their child's balance and deposit money into their lunch accounts to prevent negative balances. Remember a family may fill out a free/reduced lunch application all year. If you feel you would be eligible, take the time of apply for the lunch program.

Through the planning efforts, the district is looking to the community for input on a future proposed bond measure to address, safety and security, axillary use spaces (kitchen/cafeteria, assembly spaces, multi-purpose spaces, band and choir rooms with a performance stage). The district will become one contiguous space that will limit the students from having to travel outside for school activities.

Students from all over the worlds are preparing right now to leave their home countries to come and study in America for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. These students are leaders in their schools. They exhibit great academic skills as well as a heart for volunteer work. These are the students who will impact their countries when they return home with the experiences they have had while living here in America. The students are placed with volunteer host families throughout the US. Host families are families with kids or without kids, retired, single empty nesters. There is “no perfect” host family. All that is needed are people willing to open up their homes to one of these amazing students for a full school year or just a semester. In the process of hosting one of these students you gain so much in return. You gain an understanding of another culture. You increase culture awareness throughout your community by every person that the student comes into contact with. You gain a lifelong relationship with the student. Many host families will end up visiting their host student in their country because of the relationship that has been formed. By opening your home, you are showing the diversity that is America. It doesn’t matter if you have a big house or a small house. Diversity is one of the things that make America unique. Being able to host a student and expose them to the real America, not what is depicted on TV, is an amazing opportunity. It is also a great way to get involved with volunteering and giving your time to others. Presently, I have six students I need to find loving families for, a boy from France, two boys from Italy, a girl from Hungary, a girl from Brazil and a girl from France. In addition there are also still many other students available who need host families. Families have the ability to select the student that would best fit their family. Families receive around the clock support in the process from start to finish by having a local coordinator to walk through the process with them. If you are interested in learning more about the program, please con-tact me, Marilyn Andrews at [email protected] or 406-544-4571. You can also visit www.academicyear.org

News from Weber’s World

FCS Outdoor Classroom

(A National Wildlife Schoolyard Habitat)

The rain and sunshine of spring bring lots of life to our Outdoor Classroom. Some of the life needs a bit of control, so for the past few years Ms. Verlanic’s first grade and Mrs. Bolton’s kindergarten have taken scissors outside and clipped the leafy spurge by our OC main entrance. Why the scissors? Well, leafy spurge spreads even more if it is pulled. Its root system is amazing and regenerates quickly. You cannot get all of it with a “pull”. Scissors mimic sheep or goats grazing on the plant which takes down the green leaves and stem. That has been the most effective, non-toxic way to contain the spurge. Maybe you have seen articles about the weed control grazing on Mount Sentinel in Missoula.

The students learn about what the plant looks like (stem, leaves, blossoms, color), the milky sub-stance that comes from the stem (which we try to keep off our hands and bodies), and that pulling is not the way to get rid of it. Then, armed with safety scissors, the clipping be-gins. We have found out that these young learners are very good at learning

how to identify plants!! We also see much less spurge growing in our tended areas.

The wildflowers are pop-ping up all over the OC including Serviceberry blooms, Prairie Smoke, Pussytoes, and Arrowleaf Balsamroot. Yellow bells and sage-brush buttercups have left us until next year. Thanks to many students, parents, and teachers who have participated in this year’s spring clean-up. We have moved much dead and downed wood to the edges of the OC. It is so inviting to walk, observe, sit and relax in the greenery and spring “life”lines!

The F.C.P.O could not have accomplished all we did without the support of the community with food donations, volunteers at events, and support from the FCS faculty.

Is your child in K-8 grade? Then the F.C.P.O is for you. Volunteers like you make all the difference. Volunteering = Happy Kids! Volunteer ideas, resources, personal or business donations are tax-deductible, or time.
