High School Planning:

8th graders, it’s time to start preparing for high school! Many schools have yet to open their application pro-

cess but that doesn’t mean that it’s too early to start preparing here’s what you can do now:

Generate a list of the schools, or programs you are interested in for next year. It’s always good to have

more than one option.

Start researching those schools/programs by going directly to their websites to look for announce-

ments, open house dates, and read up on admissions criteria.

Make an appointment with Mr. Mapes or Mrs. Kozlowski to discuss high school planning options.

Most schools/programs start the admissions process November-December but keep an eye on

these dates by going to each schools’ specific website.

School Choice won’t begin until February and announcements will be made several times prior to

this process starting (School Choice is for students who want to go to Sarasota High, Booker High,

Venice High, or North Port High and don’t live in those districts. It’s a lottery process to give chanc-

es for kids to go to these schools through regular admissions). Manatee County has their own

School Choice process as well – contact the Manatee County School Board for details.

Continue to work hard in school and strive for the best grades possible as high schools do look at

8th grade class levels, grades, and end of year assessment scores.

Check specific High School websites and click on “School Calendar” link on homepage to see
