EIS MOSCOW WEST 21st April 2017 E N G L I S H I N T E R N A T I O N A L S C H O O L, M O S C O W W E S T Dear Parents, Welcome back to the start of our Summer Term and for a short week it has certainly been busy. We have welcomed new students into Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 4 and it has been wonderful to see how our students have responded to their new class mates and ensured that they are happy and safe in their new school. We had a special visitor in school this week, as a Student from Secondary School joined us for a week’s work experience to discover if a profession in education could be for her. I am delighted to say that she ended the week declaring that she had a wonderful time and maybe she would be a music teacher in the future, read our Year 4 and Year 1 blog to find out more about Ms Kristina’s week at our school. We have put our crafting and creativity skills to the test this week and have produced some amazing spring themed artefacts which we sold today at our Easter bake sale. Thank you to all the mums and dads who also supported and sent in some delicious treats for us to enjoy. The Student Council can be proud of their efforts. Please take a look at our last page to see a list of upcoming events. International Day is sure to be a success and we have each class and some extra booths already being organized by our eager volunteers. The next major event will be our Summer Fayre and I have just had one parent come forward to volunteer to provide ice-creams for us for the day - so a huge thank you! I shall share more news of this during the upcoming week. May I wish you all a wonderful weekend, Nicola Hemingway

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the start of our Summer Term and for a short week it has certainly been busy.

We have put our crafting and creativity skills to the test this week and have produced some amazing spring themed artefacts which we sold today at our Easter bake sale. This week the children learned the sound “ng”, showing each other how strong they are and singing If you’re strong and you know it say ’ng’! They enjoyed a messy play, had lots of fun outside playing in their new house and were super busy making beautiful crafts for our Bake Sale day. They welcomed three new girls, who joined our class, taking a good care of them and showing them around, helping them to settle in their new school and learn their daily routine. The girls have done brilliantly enjoying their first days of school. Were are very happy and excited to have them in our class. - Ms. Stanislava

Reception

This week we have welcomed two new Pirates into our crew! They have arrived at a perfect time as we have just begun our new topic, How We Organise Ourselves and the children have been teaching our new recruits how our days are organised and how we go about different routines during our day. We have also been learn-ing about the sounds oo make when placed together in words. We have made cuckoo clocks which make both sounds as well as boots and moons. With a brand new kitchen in our playroom we have acting out being cooks and have also measured one foot each (which we then used to measure different spaces in our classroom). If you need anything measured in feet let us know as we would be happy to help!

Year 1

Year 1 had a wonderful first week back after our break. The Children had a great time preparing for our bake/craft sale this

Friday. Ms. Kristina who was working with us this week did a great job helping the children paint their ceramic butterflies

which turned out super. The children also decorated wooden eggs.

Year 2

It’s been a busy first week back after the holidays in Year 2! We started our new science topic about growing plants, and we have also begun studying fictional stories and character descriptions in literacy. In preparation for the Friday market sale, we made some craft items – beautiful picture frames and mosaic plant pots. We also wel-comed a new student into our class – we are delighted to have you in Year 2 Yuna!

- Ms. Burke

Well our big experiment with mummification for last term’s unit on Ancient Egypt was finally complete after the long 6-8 weeks waiting process. Y3 was so thrilled to finally get to remove the wrapped gauze so they could observe what happened to their mummified oranges. The process worked well as the oranges were thoroughly dry from the spicy salt mixture that had filled the once empty and juicy cavity. After working hard to remove the mixture, they recorded their observations and we discussed what had taken place during the process. They are very excited to bring them home yesterday to share their results with their families.

Year 3

Year 4

This week, Year 4 had a special visitor in class. Kristina Z. , the sister of Alex in Year 3, came to have a won-derful work study experience with us. She would like to be a music teacher and came to teach Year 4 a song from Queen, “We Will Rock You” to sing at our Friday assembly. We really enjoyed rocking out with Kristina and hope that she comes back again!!

Student Council Easter / Spring Craft & Bake Sale

It may be a bit chilly outside in Moscow but this afternoon at EIS the warmth of SPRING arrived. Students of all ages had big smiles and lots of laughter as they participated in the Easter Craft & Spring Bake Sale fundraiser organised by our Student Council. Many colourful Easter eggs, picture frames, ceramic animals, chocolate nests with chicks, planting pots were made by our wonderful students and sold. To our wonderfully supportive PARENTS …the EIS Student Council would like to thank you so much for your donation of baked goods. Teachers and students, thank you for your wonder-ful spirit and great participation. Thank you also to Sara from Busy Bees for the donation of some crafts and to Ms.Paiste, Ms.Pracevic and Christina Z. for support of our members during the bake sale. We appreciate all of you so much for making this an incredible success. Thank you! EIS Student Council

Year 5

Congratulations year 5/6 for another productive week after a nice relaxing holi-day. In Literacy, the children read, discussed and understood Greek myths and their main theme. The group later spent some time researching myths and were able to write their own personalised myths with different settings, characters and atmospheres. A variety of mental activities and money word problems were ex-plored in Maths throughout the week, and the children demonstrated adding and subtracting amounts of money to calculate giving change. In Science year 5/6 were very excited about starting their new Topic unit related to “Life Cycles”.
