About This CatalogEanes ISD’s Community Education Programs are dedicated to providing quality education in a variety of areas to students of all ages. We offer many diverse classes, filling both academic and recreational needs.

Please take a moment to look through this catalog to see the classes and camps offered this Summer.

Your support of Community Education also gives back to our schools. All profits from Summer Splash, Summer Blast and Enrichment Courses and Camps are returned to the Eanes school district. Since 1999, we have contributed over 3 million dollars to EISD’s General Fund!

Camp Digital Media(Incoming 3rd-8th Graders) Taught by: Darcie Gilde

Unleash your creativity! Create your own animations in Adobe Flash! Learn how to create 2D and 3D art! Children 3rd through 8th grade will learn the foundations of Digital Media in Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, and 3D rendering program Rhino. Students will create a variety of projects such as claymation, stop motion, drawing with Wacom tablets, Photoshop effects, digital cameras and more. The camp is designed for students with little or intermediate computer skills. Students will not only have fun but also learn basic computer skills that will help them be successful in the future. Every kid loves playing video games. Children can create their very own computer video game from the ground up! Utilizing GameMaker software, our teachers will guide your children through every step of developing a customized functional game, including drag-and-drop programming, designing multiple levels and adding features of a real arcade-style video game. This camp is perfect for beginners, as well as for returning students who want to add on to their previously created game or create a new one. At the end of camp, your children will take home a CD with their game, the GameMaker software and our game-making resources.

KidBuilderz - Part 1(Incoming K-5th Graders) Taught by: KidBuilderz

KidBuilderZ kids get to build cool projects then watch them rocket hundreds of feet into the air, go screaming down a dragstrip or even become a home for a family of birds. With training and supervision from a trained KidBuilderZ instructor, your kids will actually learn new skills as they create something that lasts. In Part 1, students will build a water-rocket, airplane, solid-fuel rocket, and a windmill. This class is designed to be paired with Kidbuilderz Part 2 for even more KidBuilderz fun!

Junkyard Challenge(For ages 5-7) Taught by: Play-well TEKnologies

Because engineering is always a team effort, this camp teaches students how to work collaboratively to design and build the fastest, strongest, most maneuverable machines and coolest structures possible to solve real world engineering challenges. Recommended for experienced builders.

Fundamentals of Animation: Stop Motion(Incoming 3rd-6th Graders) Taught by: Aaron Lemke & Dyar Bentz

Are you a fan of movies like Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, and Fantastic Mr. Fox? If so, you should sign up for Fundamentals of Animation where we will learn some of the techniques used to make these movies. Stop motion is fun and easy to learn. We will be using iPhones, iTouches and iPads to shoot our movies. By the end of the class students will have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of animation and movie editing. Lights... Camera... Action! Children’s dreams of having their favorite LEGO® characters come to life can be a reality in our Movie Making camp. Utilizing stop-motion animation and digital post-production editing, your children will produce LEGO® movies. Students will learn about developing creative storytelling techniques, incorporating visual and audio special effects, and even voice acting to create a true overall movie experience to bring home on a CD to share with the world.

Advanced Game Maker 1(Incoming 3rd-8th Graders) Taught by: Bits Bytes & Bots

For those with previous GameMaker experience. Our teachers will take your children further into the world of video game design through more advanced techniques, such as utilizing program scripting and global variables, customizing characters via digital photo-editing software, and designing complex multi-tiered game levels using gravity, platforms and effects. At the end of camp, your children will take home a CD with their game, the GameMaker software and our game-making resources. They will have developed a newfound knowledge and appreciation of what goes into game development, including math, logic, and creative storytelling.

For those with previous GameMaker Master experience. Dive into the challenging realm of 3D game design and enter a new dimension of game creation using the powerful toolset used to create NeverWinter Nights. Design fantastic settings, create conversations with friendly townsfolk, and encounters with dangerous monsters. Write scripts using the game’s object-oriented programming language to control the flow of events. Customize content to learn about important game design concepts, such as balance, pacing, narrative, scripting and world-playing. Students will take home a complete game module they can modify and share.

Mining & Crafting with Minecraft(For ages 5-13 years) Taught by: Bricks 4 Kidz

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out; make sure to build a shelter before that happens. Experience the world of Minecraft with LEGO® bricks in this fun camp! Kids will start by crafting their shelters and some of the mobs, critters and tools. Campers will face new challenges each day, building motorized Bricks 4 Kidz® models and crafting key elements (with LEGO® bricks) from the Minecraft game. All students will take home skeleton mini figure or t-shirt. *This camp is not affiliated with Minecraft.net.

Bricks 4 Kidz® camps provide an extraordinary atmosphere for girls and boys. We provide a fun curriculum that introduces children to engineering, architecture, and scientific principles. We Learn, We build, We play ... with LEGO® bricks!

MAKING IT MOVE! is the name of the game at this exciting camp! Kids will love to see their creations in motion using LEGO® wireless remote controls. Each day, campers will use fascinating and challenging LEGO® components to create dynamic vehicles, inventions, machines and more. As they enjoy the fun of building, campers will understand the basic working principles of many ingenious devices that are part of our everyday lives. Campers will also learn how to magnify, diminish and redirect force to move objects at different speeds and in different directions. This camp is loads of fun and learning for budding builders.

Super Hero Academy Building with Motorized LEGO® Bricks(For ages 5-13 years) Taught by: Bricks 4 Kidz

Join Bricks 4 Kidz® for a week of building Super Heros with LEGO® bricks. Explore all the caped crusaders and discover their super powers. Create a fantasy world and protect it against all the evil archenemies with custom contraptions. At the end of the camp, all campers will go home with a custom created mini-figure or t-shirt. *This camp is not affiliated with Marvel Comics.

Can we fix it? Yes we can!! Bob and his gang need help with renovations, construction, and repairs. Learn about the design process civil engineers use each day in order to help Bob and his gang complete their work on time, as well as discover the world of building architecture.

Instant Fun(For ages 7-12 years) Taught by: Creativity Umbrella

Do you like surprises? Join us for a fun-filled camp focusing on activities centered around the elements of earth, wind, and fire. Each day you will solve instant challenges and create projects using LEDs, batteries, motors, pinwheels, recycled materials, and other elements guaranteed to surprise you! Each project incorporates the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in a fun, easy-going atmosphere.

Mythology Fun(For ages 7-12 years) Taught by: Creativity Umbrella

Journey with the Heroes of Greek Mythology on a 5 day adventure to Mount Olympus. With the help and hindrance of the Greek Gods, solve a series of mythological tasks using your skills in Trojan Horse construction, catapult launching, sword and shield making, ship building, archery and more. Celebrate the journey’s end with a Hero’s Pageant of Feasting and Games. Like the ancient Greeks, campers engage with the arts and sciences through their natural world – and have a BLAST!

Calling all inventors! Create your own motorized invention. Working with batteries, motors, switches, recycled toys, other fun materials and real tools, create your own amazing motorized thing-a-majig! We will begin by exploring how toys work, with a new project every day - making things that zoom, jiggle, spin and fly. For your final project, you’ll reengineer random parts from our Parts Department into your own unique battery operated invention. If you like tinkering with tools, messing with motors or inventing with intention join us in Inventing Fun!

Images are stronger than words, but there’s a catch. You need to be understood to be appreciated. Learn the basics of cartooning from super- heroes to European classics. Take your idea from a rough sketch through basic inking and coloring techniques, to a humorous conclusion.

Drawing, Cartooning and Pastels (Incoming K-5th Graders) Taught by: Young Rembrandts

We can’t wait to take a tour of Australia & then come home to our homely pets. We will use different techniques and media all in the hopes of challenging our artistic skills. Highlights in Australia include the Australian Opera House, cartooning with Australian-related jokes and scenes and a pastel drawing of a furry koala bear. Then we come home to our cuddly pets right at home. We will draw a stylized aquarium graphic, a beautiful dog &cat portrait and much more awaits your child. You will want drawings framed!

Movin’ and Groovin’ Music Camp(For ages 4-9 years) Taught by: Cindy McNicholas

The Movin’ and Groovin’ Music camp is open to any K-5th grade student who likes to have fun creating, playing instruments, singing and movin’ to the beat! We will create and play on percussion instruments, including non instrumental materials such as buckets, sticks and bottles, etc. As well as some singing and dancing to the beat! We will have daily craft activities and make our own instruments! Come “Move and Groove to the beat” at Eanes Elementary!

With tons of costumes and hilarious props to assist in their creation, the show is sure to please the invited guests at the performance on the last day! For 13 years Just Imagine Productions has been helping students, along with instructors who are the best in their field, create short, original plays for performance! During this week, the students will create a never-before-seen play using just their imaginations, hundreds of wild costumes and silly props! At the end of the week, the students will perform their creation for family and friends! The results are sure to please! Everything you are looking for! music, theater, games, crafts, all designed to enjoy the beauty of the Latin culture, learn basic Spanish vocabulary, make your own tortillas, dance Flamenco and Salsa, paint a Picasso, create a Mayan calendar, build a piñata and more! No prior knowledge of Spanish necessary.

Mariposas Spanish Immersion Camp(For ages 4-8 years) Taught by: Mariposas Spanish

Our summer camps are geared towards ages 4-8 years. The children learn Spanish through hands-on activities and real life experiences. This year’s summer camp theme is based on Argentina. The children will learn about the Argentine culture through food, music, dance, art, stories, cultural activities and outdoor games- all in Spanish! They will also be able to choose from additional activities such as Yoga and Soccer in Spanish.

Kinder Camp(Incoming Kindergarteners) Taught by: Karen Linder

Kinder Camp is open to all incoming kindergarten students and will be taught by experienced kindergarten teachers from Forest Trail Elementary. Kinder Camp is designed to give students an opportunity to work in a kindergarten setting while previewing the math and language arts curriculum through interactive games, hands-on manipulatives and fun, upbeat activities. During the class, students will have opportunities to explore materials including computers, iPads and Smartboards. This class is guaranteed to increase your child’s comfort level and set the stage for a very positive kindergarten experience.

Students will use math manipulatives, games and centers to strengthen numeracy concepts. Activities will excite, encourage and enable six-year olds to approach first grade with confidence. Calling all incoming third graders! Want to know what third grade’s all about? Veteran teachers Lori Brandenburg and Bethany Tomasik are ready to help your child make the transition from summer into the school year with confidence and ease. In our three day summer camp, we will preview many of the academic topics essential to all third graders. Through exciting hands-on lessons and engaging activities, your child will be ready for all that third grade has to offer!

Young Writer’s Camp(Incoming 1st-12th Graders) Taught by: Eanes Language Arts teachers

Are you looking for a place to explore your writing—a place to share writing with others who are just as passionate? Then join us in a fun-filled week to learn more about the craft of writing and to grow in your confidence and skill. These workshops offer young writers the time, opportunity, and artistic freedom to produce their best writing and refine their work. The workshops are led by EISD teachers who have chosen to deepen their understanding of the teaching of writing through their affiliation with the Central Texas Writing Project at Texas State University. The Central Texas Writing Project is a collaboration of the National Writing Project, Central Texas school districts, and Texas State University.

Golf In Schools Summer Camp is a terrific way for kids to receive in-depth training in golf swing fundamentals, rules, and etiquette of the game, as well as participate in fun contests and games. Come out and join us for our 6th annual summer camps! Drop your child off for 3 hours of tennis fun! We will provide instruction on stroke development, strategy, match play and conditioning along with lots of fun games and videos and an end of session party. We will separate everyone by their ages and ability levels, and we will have a very low student to pro ratio, which is not typically offered by other programs. This class is for beginner to intermediate players.

Future Chaps Baseball Camp is designed to provide individual fundamentals on hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running. The camp is designed to promote a love for the game of baseball while preparing campers for their local teams and high school baseball.

Runners will be provided a running log so they may begin to track their own progress. At the end of each week runners will race a different distance and will work to hit pace times and set personal records. At the conclusion of camp, runners will be given workouts for the remainder of summer.

Enroll Early: Sign up early because class size is limited. Once a class is full you may ask to be added to the waiting list. You will be notified via phone if a spot opens up. Registration will remain open one week after the class has started.

Class Confirmation: After registering online you will receive a confirmation email or you may choose to print directly from the computer after registering.

Class Location: All of our enrichment classes are held at the EISD campuses unless notified otherwise. The location of your class will be listed on your confirmation receipt sent to your email. If attending a class held at Westlake High School, please park in the Stadium parking lot located off Camp Craft Rd and enter through the Chap Court.

Class Cancellations: If a class is canceled you will be contacted via email 48 hours prior to the class starting by the instructor. You will automatically be refunded the full class cost back to your Credit Card or by check, depending on how the class was paid for.

Student Pick-up: At the end of class, instructors will walk their students to the front of the school and wait for their parents. Classes last their designated time and do not run longer. Instructors reserve the right to charge a late fee for pick-ups, and to remove the student from the class without refund for repeated incidents.

Children will only be allowed to leave with their designated parent/guardian. If your child will be going home with someone other than yourself or their designated guardian, please send a note with your child to give to the class instructor.

Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather, and if EISD is officially closed, all enrichment classes are postponed and will be rescheduled by the instructor. Such notice of school closing will be announced by local radio and television stations.

Refunds: 100% refunds are only given for those summer programs that are canceled by Community Education. A �0% refund will be given to anyone that requests a refund ONE WEEK (� business days) prior to the start of the class or camp. Requests for refund must be emailed or submitted in writing to the Community Education Office. Refunds will be made by check or to the credit card account used when registering. Any refund requests made after the one week before the start of classes/camps should be made directly to the instructor. Any refund, class substitution, or class credit will be the responsibility of the instructor
