Our founder Late Shri. Rohan Lal
Chaturvedi who in February
1951 along with Late Shri.
Jamuna Lal Bajaj was one of the
first two donors to offer their
personal assets on the call of
Bhoodan Movemnet of Late
Acharya Vinobha Bhave. Late
Shri. Acharya Vinobha Bhave
was overwhelmed by this
gesture and visited Etah for three
weeks and started Sarvoday
movement by creating a source
o f water supp ly th rough
Shramdaan; which in modern
times has been tested as pure
mineral water. Hereafter the spirit
of Sarvoday was crystallized and
Sarvoday Ashram Trust was
formed to create, provide and
explore employment avenues in
rural sector not only in Etah
district of U.P but also outside
district in the state of U.P and
India as a whole.

SSarvoday Ashram
Rise of Self Reliance
Sarvoday Ashram, elating the
spirits and living standard of
thousands of craftsmen. Initiated
in 1953, Sarvoday is a movement
to bring self reliance and
sustainability to the villages and it
is achieved through hand-spun-
hand-woven fabric. It saw the
support of some of the icons of
Indian politics like Dr. Rajendra
Prasad, Pandit Jawaher Lal
Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri,
Acharya Kriplani and many
others.The cloth that personifies
elegance for you, brings the
villagers dignity in life.
If we have the 'khadi spirit' in us,
we would surround ourselves
with simplicity in every walk of life. - By Mahatma Gandhi
SSpinners &Weavers Khadi delivers the poor from the bonds of the rich
and creates a moral and spiritual bond
between the classes and the masses.
Over the last two decades, we
have only attempted to organize
handspun, hand-woven textiles
produced by ten nimble fingers
of our artisans to consumer-
centric market in semi-rural,
u r b a n a n d i n t e r n a t i o n a l
markets. Sarvoday Ashram has
provided opportunities like life
insurance plan, scholarships for
ch i ldren's educat ion and
creating permanent houses for
them to have better living.

SSarvoday MovementThe ‘khadi spirit’ means
fellow-feeling with every
human being on earth.
A simple spinning wheel that
succeeded in providing alternate
means of employment has come
to a full circle with Sarvoday. The
movement started as an initiative
to uplift the rural population and
has now become a force that
identifies with both the urban
needs and rural skil ls. It
encourages the expression of a
person's individuality through its
fabrics while preserving an
individual's self-respect by giving
him an honourable sustenance.
We treat this spinning activity as
meditation. Every purchase from
Ekmatra goes towards the well-
being of the true India.
