A large number of our Young Players had a really big July. The younger group finished Guys and Dolls, Jr.

Then the students and adults that had been working for two years to earn their way to New York met at the airport at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning. By their return Wednesday, they had experienced these things and more: An improv acting work-shop at Ripley Greer studios, talkback session with Madeleine Doherty, who has been in 7 Broadway shows and teaches at NYU, Radio City Music Hall tour, Broad-way shows, Times Square, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, the Met, 911 Memorial, Wall Street, Trinity Church, Lincoln Center, American Ballet Theatre, Mostly Mozart rehearsal, Julliard School, Central Park. And look who they ran into!

The kids left each meeting impressed with the instruction and an-swers that they received, and as we were leaving, the instructors commented on the abilities of the kids in our group and that they were far more advanced than what they had expected. Madeleine actually called ahead to the workshop instructors after her meeting with the kids to basically say that they better bring their “A” game to the workshop because our kids were enthusiastic and sharp. Thank you to all who worked, donated, ate cookies, and supported our Young Players in this endeavor.

Saturday YP workshops are over until September.

“All Shook Up” is set in 1955 in a Midwestern town devoid of music and love, when a roustabout by the name of

Chad (Alexander Harding Chandler) rides in on his motorcycle. His bike needs a mechanic and that's when he

meets Natalie Haller (Hannah Hill), the best female mechanic around, according to a press release. Natalie has been

dreaming of her one true love and falls head over heels for Chad, not realizing that her best friend, Dennis (Mark A.

Burbank), is in love with her. It doesn't take long for Chad to realize that this town is in need of some excitement,

but fun has been outlawed by Mayor Matilda Hyde (Sarah Clayton). She keeps her son, Dean (Jacob Jackson), in

tow by sending him to military school, and absolutely forbids him from getting romantically involved with Lorraine

(Kyra Griffin), Even the town's Sheriff, Earl (Joshua Grandon), can't get in a word edgewise in her presence. As Chad

seeks to shake things up, the citizens begin to show signs of life. Natalie's widowed father, Jim (Johnny Jackson),

falls in love with the museum caretaker, Miss Sandra (Cassandra Lovell), while the owner of the Honkey Tonk, Sylvia

(Desiree Grisley), falls in love with him.

Elvis Presley tunes make up the score, including

"Teddy Bear/Hound Dog", Blue Suede Shoes",

and "Don't Be Cruel." While a comedy, the

musical also touches racial and class tensions of

the 1950s. Rounding out the cast: Paul Johnston,
