EL PRESIDENTE We have completed our second race of the year. We had a less than expected turnout, as I heard some people complained that it was too hot to race. Well, if you are not driving a stock car you have no idea what hot is. The temperature in my stock car was 185 degrees by my feet when I pulled into the pits. Remember that wa-ter boiling point is 212! Since my car broke down at the GASS race, I ended up watching the race. And what a show Bob M, Aaron Y & Mark N. put on. They drove door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper with no inci-dent. What great racing.
I also had a privilege of racing with the Miata guys at Spokane raceway. I recall on the second day there was only .8 sec differential in the fastest lap of the top 12 drivers. What a great race that was put on by these youngsters (not really, most are over 50 and many collecting social security). Door-to-door, bumper-to-bumper racing... Again with no real incidents. The race steward came to spoke to us about the aggressive driving reported by the corner workers. However, none of the drivers recall any of such issues. It must be the old age!!!
Soon, we are to elect new board members. We are looking for a few good men/women to run for the seats. There will be four open positions. The best thing about being part of the board is ordering breakfast at 5:30pm at Elmer’s!!! Kidding! But seriously, it is an eye opener being part of the board the last two years and learn what a great club we have that simply goes to reflect our amazing members. The other part is what we would do if we did not have all our wonderful volunteers that makes the racing more affordable for rest of us. We need more of our members to be little more active in volunteering.
So as I am settling more in my position, I am simply impressed how we put these racing event together that goes almost perfectly. And for the racers (I am one of you) to be able to just to show up with everything well organized. Just remember when you are at the registrar or walking by a corner worker or any of the volun-teers, don’t be shy introduce yourself and say; thank you and God Bless America.By the way how do you like our CSCC Banner? The design was done by Pro3 driver Oliver H. He is amazing and greatly appreciat-ed for all his work.
Our next event is Dash for kids so lets try to help Tiffany “[email protected]”.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions.

This Month’s topic: “Alphabetical Racing Wisdom” some quotes by famous race car drivers and others like me – your Loose Nut. As you know, racecar folks can be a bit focused at times. Too eliminate the percep-tion of uni-dimensional thinking associated this impressive ability to concentrate, I collected many quotes showing the diversity of knowledge and wisdom that goes with racing. To demonstrate our near encyclopedic oratory skills, I show that we even use all the letters of the alphabet. Aerodynamics: “Aerodynamics are for people who can’t build engines.” – Enzo Ferrari. Brakes: “It is amazing how many drivers, even at the Formula One Level, think that the brakes are for slowing the car down.” – Mario Andretti Control: “If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough”. – Mario Andretti, as well as “After the third flip, I lost control.” – Don Roberts Dr iving: “And suddenly I realized that I was no longer driving the car consciously. I was driving it by a kind of instinct, only I was in a different dimension.” – Ayrton Senna Exper ience: “Calling upon my years of experience, I froze at the controls.” – Stirling Moss Finish: “To finish first, you must first finish” – Rick Mears, and Family: “Motor racing is like one big family, ul-timately, and when you come back to it, that's really what it feels like.” – Mario Andretti Games: “Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports… all the others are games.” – Ernest Hemingway Horsepower : “We’re far from having too much horsepower… my definition of too much horsepower is when all four wheels are spinning in every gear.” As well as “If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower.” – both from Mark Donohue. [He obviously liked lots of horsepower.] Ideas: “Never run out of real estate, ideas and traction at the same time.” – Origin Unknown. Job: " We worked 80 hour weeks for 30 years to keep from having to get a real job." " T.C" . Tom Lemon Know: “Just leave me alone. I know what to do.” – Unknown racing driver Lightness: “Simplify, then add lightness.” – Colin Chapman Money: “Racing is the best way to convert money into noise.” – Origin Unknown. Nut: “Gotta work on the nut behind the wheel before you start fixing the bolts.” – Origin Unknown. Oversteer : “Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Understeer is when you hit with the front.” – Clay Smith Personalities: “I love this kind of racing, (but) these guys sure change their personalities in race mode. They’re like Doberman Pinschers with a hand grenade in their mouths.” –Boris Said Quality: “The quality is remembered way after the price is forgotten.” – Sir Henry Royce (as in Rolls Royce cars) Reliable: “Cheap, Fast and Reliable. Pick two.” – Origin Unknown Speed: “Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary… that’s what gets you.” – Jeremy Clark-son. Turns: “He who turns least wins.” – Ross Bentley Upside down: Newman’s first Law – “It is useless to put on the brakes when you are upside down.” – Paul New-man Value: “You really don't put a value on your first win, it is priceless no matter where you are.” – Kurt Busch Wreck: “You win some, you lose some, you wreck some.” – Dale Earnhardt Sr. X (aXis): “Nothing good has ever been written about the full rotation of a racecar about its roll axis.” – Carroll Smith Yellow: “Yellow usually means it's not that serious.” – Bobby Unser Zigzag: “I had to Zigzag all over the track before I hit him.” – Loose Nut OK, I admit, a few of those are “out there”, but we should all be OK with that. It reinforces that we are an eclectic group of free thinkers. We say what we think. Sometimes that makes sense, sometimes, well, not so much. More importantly, it makes sense to us! Excellent. I am sure there is plenty of insight hidden in there. I hope you find it. Thanks for reading. HAVE FUN! Until next time, Loose Nut.

Dear Cascade Members, Subject: 2017 Board Member Elections Elections for the 2017 Cascade Board of Directors positions are coming up. Elections are held at the November gen-eral meeting. The BOD consists of eight members. We are looking for a slate of (at least) eight members to run for four available board positions. The position is a two year term with half of the board rotating out every year (four members will return for their second year and four new members will be elected). Per the bylaws, we will appoint a five member nominating committee at the August general meeting. The appointed committee will then present a list of nominees to the members at the September general meeting. We will also accept additional nominees from the floor at the September and October meetings. Ballots along with a brief resume of each prospective nominee will go out (mailed) to all members two weeks prior to the November meeting. Ballots will be tallied at the November meet-ing and the new board will be announced at the December banquet. To be eligible for a BOD position, you must be an Active or Lifetime member in good standing for at least one year prior to nomination. Only one ACTIVE member from the same HOUSEHOLD will be eligible to be nominated. If you have questions regarding the positions, procedures, or requirements, please contact me or one of the current BOD members. We are looking for members for both the nominating committee and members to run for the Board positions. Please strongly consider getting involved. It is a challenging but fun and very rewarding experience and your club needs and appreciates your help. Steve Powell Membership Chairperson 503-970-3190

ATTENTION MEMBERS
The Cascade Board of Directors is looking for a member interested in going to our social event and taking pictures of the people attending. Even if they are funny pictures or mistakes we hap-pen to have. This also would include all of our events in the Portland area. This can be fun and a way to meet us and enjoy the process. We provide photo books for you to set this year of 2016 to history. Cascade has a long history in the area. We have located minutes from the late 1950’s to current. We are also in possession of some awesome picture books of the early years. It is fun to scan through these and see how some people have changed, the cars have also changed with the track at PIR. If you are not in possession of a camera, don’t let that be a problem. We can get you the equip-ment you need and ideas of what else you might need. Come to a general meeting, pictures there are nice also, and you get to meet everyone. Please contact any Board member or email me at [email protected]. Come have fun!!! Linda Blackburn
Attention Members! Did you realize that you could earn the cost of your membership back in gift cards at the end of the year? You get points for working the events we have. Maybe you can’t work full days or maybe just one at the race weekend or a few hours in the afternoon. Or maybe you can help with the charity before August gets here. There are many areas where we can use vol-unteers. Each chairperson you work with will be keeping track of your time spent doing vol-unteer work. At the end of the year, if you have worked at least 25 hours you have a great chance of getting your membership amount back in gift cards. Who knows, you may enjoy the volunteering so much you earn way more back that just the membership price. Let’s see more participation this year. (See elsewhere in the Auspuff where Grace Skinner, Points keeper, has outlined what and how you earn points).
We have a membership of over 250 but it seems the very small majority do the work work. Some of us are getting up in years and could really use the extra assist or your help. The more people the less we all have to do and we all have more fun at it. It is enjoyable and re-warding when you see what you have accomplished and with the Dash for Kids the smiles you bring to people’s faces. You can pretty much choose your hours and the kind of work you want to help us with. If you have any questions please contact me, Linda at [email protected] or 360.513.9769, or one of the other Board members listed or the person in charge of the area you want to volunteer in. Did you realize that volunteering for charities or helping people makes your life more fulfilling and you may just live longer from relieving stress and seeing happiness for others?

FULL SET OF RULES: Entry to this race does not have to be in conjunction with any other race(s) of the weekend. Except as noted, the 2016 ICSCC Competition Regulations will apply. Each entry shall consist of either one or two drivers for the one hour races, and no more than four drivers for the two hour races. Drivers may drive in up to two cars per race. Car numbers will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Points: See above (page 1) for point structure. Each dr iver will receive the same points whether an entry is one
or multiple drivers. Example: If a one driver entry wins – 12 points are awarded. If a two driver entry wins – 12 points are awarded to each driver. Pole points will be awarded to both drivers. If a driver drives in two dif-ferent cars in the same race, they will only receive points for the higher finish if the two cars are in the same class. If the two cars are in different classes, the driver will receive points for both classes. The Series Cham-pionship (each class) will be determined by adding a drivers seven highest point totals together. Ties in final points shall be resolved on the basis of each driver’s record of first place finishes; then, if necessary, second place finishes. If two or more drivers have accumulated the same number of first and second place finishes, they shall be considered tied for the Championship. If for example two drivers tie for the Championship, the next driver shall be considered to have finished in third place.
**Championship points standings available at www.cascadesportscarclub.org and www.icscc.com ** Mandatory Pit Stop: Each race will have a mandatory 60 second pit stop to be made between the 20 minute mark
