Learning for life

Leopold Primary School with 800 fabulous students all ‘Going places’ – Above and beyond. Leap into Leopold. What a great time we have all been having building

and refreshing our personal connections and celebrating all that is fabulous about being part of the Leopold Primary School community. Here are some memorable moments :- Super Hero / LPS day -- The capes and the learning powers were flying around our school.

Pancakes were flipped and tummies were full. An amazing $1170 was raised for Uniting Care. We sincerely thank the members of the Uniting Church and the Leopold Lions for their kindness.

Study Turf workshops – Approximately 150 families have been to the Study Turf workshops this week. Remember there are videos within our LPS website- STUDY TURF INFORMATION – READ MORE. Triste Anderson (Assistant Principal), your child’s teacher and Gr 5/ 6 students can also guide you. School Leaders prepared and delivered their very first school assembly last week. We congratulate our school leaders -Yunas Acar, Darcy Pearson, Jess Salkeld and Charlotte Adair for their ability to draw us together around key messages and to celebrate school and individual achievement. Tomorrow is our ‘You Can Do It’ day where our students rotate within their grade level through a number of activities that build and support – Organisation (Oscar Organised), Getting along (Gabby Get along) , Persistence (Pete Persistence) and Confidence (Connie Confidence) all leading to Resilience ( Ricky Resilience).

Revision of our school values--- Going dotty Thank you to everyone for voting for their three top school values at our picnic night. The votes have been counted and the re-sults are included on the table below. If you did not get to vote on the picnic night then there is still time to have your say. Next week we will place voting sheets of paper in our admin area. Simply ask our admin team for three dots and place them on the voting sheets. All LPS staff and students (Gr 3-6) will vote next week and we will share the aggregated results with you in our next newsletter.

Leopold School Council – Call for nominations for parent and DET categories. School Councils play a key role in Victorian government schools, and being a member of the school council is a rewarding and challenging experience. Acting as a team, councils support the principal and teachers to provide the best possible educational outcomes for the students. The School Council membership configurations are mandated by the Department of Education(DET). Our school council has a mandated membership of 15, comprising of 8 parent representatives, 4 DET em-ployee representatives and up to three community co-opted members. The Principal acts as the executive officer. Broadly the School Council governs over the following areas :-

• Establishing the broad direction and vision of the school within the school’s community.

• Participating in the development and monitoring of the school strategic plan

• Approving the annual budget and monitoring expenditure

• Developing, reviewing and updating school policies, raises funds for school related purposes

• Maintaining the school’s ground and facilities

• Entering into contracts

• Creating interest in the school in the wider community

• Reporting annually to the school community and to the Department of Education

• Currently our School Council meets between 6:30 – 8:00 pm on the third Tuesday of the month. The School Council positions are held for two years, with half the school councillors vacating positions each year. Vacating school councillors can renominate for a further two year position on the School Council. A School Council election, if nomina-tions exceed vacancies, is held annually in Feb / March to fill the positions. Therefore it is time for our school to call for nominations for School Council positions that span from March – March across 2014/15 . We have 4 parent representative and 2 DEECD representative vacancies—See school council membership below. Call for nominations for school council positions Nominations open at 8:30 am on Monday 23rd February, and close at 4 pm on Friday 27th February. Nomination forms can be obtained from our school office. Nominations are to be lodged at our administration office in a box provided. If there are more nominations than positions then there will be a ballot within the parent and/ or the DET electorates. The ballot will then be held between Tuesday 3nd March– Friday 6th March. Please see Jan Rollinson for further information.

For more information please see your classroom teacher or myself. House Cross Country This event will take place on the first Friday in Term 2. This is a whole school Prep-6 event and we are looking to outdo our 500 parents and friends who attended from last year. Please note all helpers will need WWCC Interschool Sport Coaches If you have a special talent and would like to help coach a sport team on Friday at 2:30-3:20pm then feel free to drop in and see Mr. Ben Dew. HOT SHOTS TENNIS at LEOPOLD PS- Physical Education Fundraiser Our School is an official venue of Tennis Australia’s National School Partnership Program (NSPP) which means students will experience the national kids’ starter program ANZ Tennis Hot Shots in their health and physical education curriculum. Tennis Australia is helping schools restock their tennis supplies and in some cases build Hot Shot Tennis courts through encouraging parents to sign their child up to the 2015 program. This program is FREE to you and your child will receive their own Hot Shots Tennis shirt delivered to school in Term 2. Prep students registered will receive a FREE tennis racquet as well. The benefit to Leopold PS is that for every child registered our PE program will receive $2 per child to invest back into tennis. If parents then verify the email sent to them from Tennis Australia our school will then receive an addition $5 per child. If all children in the school sign up our school will receive over $5000 to spend on tennis development. But please hurry as the closing date for this offer is March 8th!!!! Go to http://goo.gl/vEFqyB and complete the Google Form. T&C’s are on the Google Form Any questions please see Mr Hair.
