Greetings from the National President It was nice to see so many members from so many different states at the NLPOA 42 Annual Training Conference in sunny Miami, Florida.

This year training was exceptional and there was training in special response training, heroes behind the badge, hate crimes, robbery intervention, police leadership, international fugitive investigations, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, mortgage fraud, internal affairs, cyber tracking, critical incidents, tactical narcotics, racial profiling, police officer stress, organized motorcycle gangs, major scene management, Hispanic prison gangs, and police drones.

Miami was a great location for a training conference and a lot was accomplished at the national meeting. The by-laws were revised making our organization stronger. Savannah Solis a 10 year old girl from Texas wearing her hand made blue lives matter t-shirt attended the 2015 National Police Week Candle Light Vigil and passed out cards with candy attached to every police officer she could find. This year they read out an additional 273 names at the ceremony. Savannah gave me a card that said “Dear Police Officer, My name is Savannah and I am 10 years old. I just want to say thank you for taking care of so many people every day. You are my hero. I am so glad we have you. You are brave too. I hope you like the chocolates. Our annual Menudo Run is a fundraiser to help raise money for our scholarship fund. Every year we give out scholarships to high school seniors, this year we are going to give out $8,000 to high school seniors. Officer Kerrie Orozco, 29, a member of the Omaha Nebraska chapter died at Creighton University Medical Center after being shot while serving a warrant. The suspect was also killed in the exchange. Kerrie is also survived by her husband, a new born child of three months, and two step children whom she loved very much. She was an active member in the community through the NLPOA and loved by all. We ask that you keep Kerrie and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Texas state president Michael Ramirez has advised that Dallas County Sheriff Detective and NLPOA member James Wise passed away on Saturday (May 23, 2015) from complications after a long and courageous battle from cancer. We ask that you keep James and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
