Help Corner .................... 10Organize Your Life

When I first began planning this magazine, I envi-sioned young women learning new things from beauty to fashion to lifestyle tips in a fun, vibrant approach. I wanted to create a fun, hip magazine for young wom-en to get makeup and hairstyling tips, learn about new products and fashion, and even learn about ways to make your life simpler; all within a reasonable budget coinciding with the lifestyle of a young woman in her twenties.

I ask that you, the reader, feel free to write The YWT with feedback on the magazine. It is made to em-power, entertain, and assist you. Over the next few issues, we will be adding more stories and topics to the magazine line up.

So, enjoy the very first edition of The YWT!

Happy reading,

Kourtney Jaé

DAYTIME MAKEUP

DAYTIME HAIRSTYLE

“ The Natural Look”

“The Poof Up-Do”

What you need: Foundation & Concealer (option-al), eyebrow brush, makeup brushes, eyebrow pencil, eye shadow primer, bronze eye shadow, dark brown eye shadow, ultra light brown eye shadow, very dark brown (or black) eye liner, very dark brown (or black) mascara, eyelash curler, bronzer blush, and lip tint.

1. Apply concealer & foundation, if desired.2. Use the eyebrow brush to brush brows into a neat

shape (a cleaned mascara brush works just as well).3. Use eyebrow pencil to lightly go over brows.

4. Apply eye shadow primer evenly over eyelids.5. Apply bronze eye shadow to bottom section of eyelid.6. Apply the dark brown shadow to the crease of the lid.7. Use a small makeup brush to blend the 2 colors for an

even transition. You want it too look smooth.8. Finally, apply the ultra light brown eye shadow evenly

to the brow bone. This is your highlight.9. Blend the two shadows so they flow evenly into each

other, making sure you have an even transition.10. Apply the eyeliner to bottom of your lid.11. Use mascara on eyelashes to create volume & length.12. Use the eyelash curler to curl your lashes.13. Lightly apply the bronze blush to your cheekbones, to

achieve a smooth, natural bronze glow.14. Finally, apply lip tint for the finished look.

What you need: Comb, bobby pins, hair spray, & rub-ber band (optional).

1. Part your hair from ear to ear, so that you have 2 even sections of hair.

2. Divide the front half in 3 even sections.3. Grab the middle section of hair and twist the hair

all of the way to your roots.4. Take twisted hair and push it forward until you

get the “poof ” of your desired size.5. Pin hair down with 2 bobby pins.

6. Take the right section of hair and twist it backwards.7. Pin hair down at the end of the twist.8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 for left section.9. At this point, the front half of hair is complete .10. Gather all of the “loose” hair and twist it into a messy

(or neat, if desired) bun and insert the pins to secure it. (You can also pull hair into a ponytail, if desired.)

NIGHT TIME MAKEUP

NIGHT TIMEHAIRSTYLE

“Spirals with Style”

What you need: Comb, large curling irons, bobby pins, hair spray, & hair clip.

1. Make sure hair is moisturized from root to tip and straightened (preferably with a flat iron).

2. Part one section of your hair in the front for a bang, and then pin it the section down. This is to keep it out of your way when styling your hair.

3. Work from the back of the head to the front, taking a 2 inch section of hair & spraying it with hair spray.

4. Gather the rest of the hair, and place it into a hair clip to hold in place during the curling process.

5. Take the 2 inch section of hair and curl it around the curling iron firmly, holding the iron vertically.

6. Hold in place vertically for approximately 30 sec-onds (maybe more depending on hair texture).

7. Loosen the hair a few times, and then completely release the iron. You now have a spiral curl.

8. Repeat steps 3-7 until you reach the front.9. Gather front half of hair (minus the bang) and

twist it until you make a “poof ” of desired size.10. Pin down hair with 2 bobby pins, to keep in place.11. Finally, comb out the bang, leaving it straight.

The YWT’SProduct Review

Blistex “Silk & Shine”w/ SPF 15The cold winter is here and many women are looking for a good lip pro-tectant that is not harsh on the lips from medication and does not smell like a doctor’s office, but will still give them the same protection in the cold winter months. Blistex “Silk & Shine” is that product. This is not the nor-mal, boring Blistex that many people are used to, but it still offers the same protection with its lip protectant for-mula and SPF 15. It comes in a tube that looks like the lipstick that many of us are used to. Just pop the cap off and twist the bottom to apply. “Silk & Shine” is not just a name. It is made with real silk extracts and goes on like silk with a smooth application. Its shine brings dull, dry lips to life, and doesn’t overpower them with shiny gloss [like some other products]. It enhances your lips natural look and luster with a sleek, natural shine.

Review by: Tiffany J., Age: 24I tried Blistex “Silk & Shine” for 2 weeks, and I really like it. It keeps my lips feeling soft and moisturized and it’s not too greasy or gooey like some other lip products. Plus, it has a really nice flavor, so when I lick my lips, it doesn’t take like medicine. The only problem I had with Blistex “Silk & Shine” was when I first started using it. My lips were really dry, so after I put it on, I could see white flakes of dead skin on my lips. It made it really visible. “Silk & Shine” made it really soft, though, so I was able to wipe it off with ease. I haven’t had that prob-lem since. Overall, I would give this product an A-.

L’Oréal’s “Telescopic Explosion Mascara”This mascara takes a new approach to the old mascara that we’re used to. With so many mascara products on the market, it is hard to pick one. Well, L’Oréal makes that choice a little less difficult. With its unique mascara brush, you can now reach lashes that may have been difficult to reach before. You can now extend and separate every lash from every angle. The result is an even application and a full fanned out look. L’Oréal asks the question: “Can your big straight brush do this?” We don’t think so.

Review by: Tina K., Age: 21I really like doing my makeup; espe-cially, my eye makeup. I like really bold lashes, but I’m not a fan of false eyelashes. A lot of mascaras don’t give me the look I want, but with this one, I was able to create dark, evenly spaced lashes. I was able to fan my lashes out for a dramatic look. The only problem I had was that it does clump a little bit on the wand. But once I applied it to my lashes a few times, there are no more clumps. All in all, I would give this product a B.

Review by: Tresina D., Age: 26I hate doing my hair because it’s really long. I usually go to the salon, but in between visits, I need a hair system to use at home. I have dry, damaged hair that tends to break and shed, so I tried Motion’s 3-Part Hair Sys-tem. Overall, I was pleased with the results. The instructions were easy to follow, and it did not take a long time to complete. The only gripe I have with this product is that you have to apply the Hair Lotion and Conditioning spray every day, unless your hair will begin to look dry. Some days I just want to wake up, brush, and go, and not have to add those 2 extra steps to my routine. Over-all, I would give this product a B.

Here at The YWT, we want to give you the most helpful reviews on the latest products. With you in mind, we review a variety of beauty products geared toward women in their twenties. And, not only that… We take it a step further by having other women in their twenties review the products as well. What better way to hear about a product, than from women just like you. We hope you find these reviews useful. Feel free to write in to us and let us know what you think of these products, as well. Enjoy…

Motion’s 3-Part Hair Treatment SystemDamaged hair is a problem for many women, and finding a hair treatment system is difficult for most. Motion’s 3-Part Hair Treatment System pro-vides the protection and repair need-ed to strengthen, maintain, and repair damaged hair, while conditioning hair to provide a healthy sheen. The system consists of: Motion’s Critical Protection & Repair (CPR) Treat-ment Shampoo, Motion’s CPR Anti-Breakage Hair Lotion, and Motion’s Oil Sheen & Conditioning Spray.

Motion’s 3-Part Hair Treatment Sys-tem will help repair damaged hair, while helping to prevent further breakage. We recommend using all 4 products to achieve desired results.

Doing It All:A Story of a Single Mother

The past image of a single, hard-working mother was a woman in her 30s, or older, working hard to support her family. Recently, that image has changed. In the new

age, a lot of single, hard-working mothers are young women in their 20s, like 23 year old, Tamisha Ketchum, raising a child, working to provide for them, and going to school to pur-sue a better life for her mini-family. Tamisha,

like most single mothers, never thought she would have to work hard and struggle as a single mother, but when the relationship with her boyfriend failed, she was forced to raise her son on her own.

Tamisha and her 3-year-old son, DJ, live with her mother and two brothers in a two-level home in the south suburbs of Chicago, IL. She goes to school full-time at a local community college, where she is begin-ning her studies in pursuit of a PhD in Pharmacy, and she also works part-time for a super retail store. Unfortunately, Tamisha’s story has become an all-too-familiar tale.

I sat down with her recently to talk to her about her life now, and her journey to this point.

When did you find out that you were expecting, and how did you react to the news?

I found out that I was pregnant in the summer of 2006. I had just started training for a job at the air-port. I was so happy to get that job because it paid really good money, and I knew it would help me sup-port myself while I was in school. I was so excited… But, then I started getting horrible morning sickness. It went on for a while until I de-cided to go to the doctor. That’s when I found out that I was preg-nant. Needless to say, I had to quit my job at the airport because I was just too sick to work. I don’t know why, but I never thought I would get pregnant. Even though, me and my boyfriend didn’t use pro-tection all of the time, I still didn’t think it would happen to me. [She laughs] I kow everybody says that, though. So, when it happened to me, I was shocked and scared. I knew my life had just changed forever, and it would never ever be the same.

What is a typical day for you?

Well, I wake up every morning at 4:30 to drive my mom to work be-cause we only have one car. Then, I get back home around 6:15, and work on homework. My son, DJ is usually sleep, but if he wakes up, then I feed him and spend some time with him before I go to school. Luckily, I have a little brother that’s willing to watch him for me, so I don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on daycare every month. When I get out of school, I come home and enjoy some more time with my son be-fore I have to leave for work. I usu-ally get home from work around 10 or 11 at night. Then, I feed and bathe DJ and get him ready for bed. Once, he’s settled in, I try to finish my homework. I know it sounds really hectic, but I’ve got-ten used to it.

Do you get any support from DJ’s father?

No. Not really. He calls to check up on DJ, and every once in while he’ll come over to the house or pick him up to spend some time with him. That’s about it. He doesn’t work, so I don’t get any support financially

from him at all. I wish he would come around and spend more time with his son. It’s not even aout the money. I just want DJ to have a relationship with his father. I hate seeing my son’s tears and hearing him cry everytime his father leaves. It breaks my heart.

How do you deal with it all? What drives you?

It’s hard. Some days are eas-ier than others, but I make it work. I do it all for him because I want him to have a good life. If I could spend every moment of my day with him, I would. [Pause] And, that would make me very happy. But, in order to provide for him, I have to do this. Once, I finish school and find a better job, things will be more different.

Do you have any advice for other young mothers?

Yes. Don’t stop. That’s what I would tell them. Don’t stop, don’t give up, and don’t get discouraged. I know it’s hard, but you can do it. You have to look at the bigger picture. In the end, all of the hard work and long days will pay off. My son keeps me going. Seeing his face and his smile is what drives me. I do it all for him.

I do it all for him because I want him to have

a good life...

Stunning, Sophisticated, Sensual...

Organize Your Life!Organization is important to keep you sane! If your life is unorganized, you will spend more time rushing, stressing, and freaking out about minor things that could be prevented. Eliminate some of the fuss by organizing your life!

1. Mange your time:Managing your time wisely will save you a lot of headache. The better you organize your time, the less time you will spend figuring out what to do and when to do it. That means more time to enjoy your life. Multi-tasking is a huge way to manage your time. Many young women commute to school or work on the train. So, while you’re riding to your destination, you can do homework, write out a grocery list, or even read that book you’ve been meaning to read. Another way to manage time is to plan ahead whenever possible. Speaking of planning ahead…

2. Invest in a dry erase board: This will help you keep track of all of the important memos, appointments, or tasks you need to remember. This should be in the place you spend the most time.

3. Use a day planner: This is a backup for the dry erase board and calendar. You should carry this with you in your bag at all times, so you can add to it and remember things on the go.

4. Keep your bedroom clean: If you keep your room neat and organized, it will save you a lot of time trying to find clothes, papers, and many other things. Plus, when you wake up to a nice, clean bedroom, it makes you feel good inside!

5. Don’t procrastinate: If you put it off until later, you’ll be rushing to get it done . . . if it gets done at all. Don’t put it off. Just do it! You’ll thank yourself later when you’re relaxing with a good book or a TV show, instead of stressing out about completing something else that should have been done already!

6. Make time for you: Make sure you make time for yourself to relax! Take a break from the hustle and bustle of day to day life, take a deep breath, exhale, and enjoy life.

If you put it off until later, you’ll be rushing to get it done…

You’re only 6 steps away…
