On this occasion, a report on Elderly Abuse was also released by Mrs. Manjira Khurana, Country Head. A few major facts are detailed below. 44% of Senior Citizens have been Abuse in the public place .64% Senior Citizens say it is easy for people to get away being rude to the elderly. Delhi is the highest for bad behaviour of Govt. Hospital's Staff towards Elders with 26%, followed by Banglore with 22%. 70% of Mall's staff behaves badly with Elders. 12% of the elders have been treated rudely by others in queue while trying to pay their utility bills. Similarly, abuse reported as 23% in Delhi, 70% in Bangalore, 60% in Hyderabad, 59% in Guwahati & 52% in Kolkata. 53% elders feel discriminated ,61% elders feel, people impatient with them, since they are slow, 52% elders feel, people are ruder to them if they are not well dressed. 53% of elders find the behavior of Motorists and Bikers a challenge. While in Delhi, 45% elders feel unsafe with the behavior of Motorists on the road, Bangalore ranks the highest with 73% , 38% nationally fear accident, due to negligence of others. To cope with these challenges on the road, 42%of elders avoid stepping out as far as possible. The main was to create awareness in print media/ electronics media about safety and security of life and property of Senior Citizens and also to protect them for various kind of abuses such as physical, emotional, economical, disrespect, verbal and neglect. J.R.Gupta, Chairperson, Confederation demanded constitution of National & State Commission for Senior Citizens, free travel in DTC buses and reservation of one coach in metro exclusively for Senior Citizens. He further demanded that Delhi Police should take remedial measures for their security, as incidents targeting Senior Citizens are increasing day by day. Garg, Secretary A State Level Delhi Police Advisory Body meeting was held at Delhi Police headquarters under the Chairmanship of Shri Praveer Ranjan, Joint Commissioner of Police( Crime) on 15/06/2017 to discuss Safety and Security of senior citizens, identification & registration of senior citizens living alone, conduction of security audit, creation of awareness about the Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 and Role of Senior Citizens Associations in the safety and security of senior citizens. Eminent senior citizens across Delhi participated along with A.C.P. level officers of all the Districts including Traffic Police. On behalf of Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi ( an umbrella body of 11 lakh senior citizens), J.R. Gupta, Chairperson, attended the meeting who raised vital issues concerning safety of senior citizens . He offered his full support for holding a big conclave of senior citizens to create awareness about the Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 which was appreciated by the Chairman and assured to convey the date in due course. Help Age India in association with Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi (an umbrella body of 11 lakh senior citizens) organised a special function at India International Center in which more than 350 senior citizens including youths participated on the eve of World Elders Awareness Day . On this occasion, a report on Elderly Abuse was also released by Mrs. Manjira Khurana, Country Head. A few major facts are detailed below. 44% of Senior Citizens have been Abuse in the public place .64% Senior Citizens say it is easy for people to get away being rude to the elderly. Senior Citizens Council of Delhi organized joint-birthday of its 12 members falling in the month of June, 2017 at Recreation Centre, Green Park Extension on 25/06/2017 in the presence of more than 150 senior citizens. All were felicitated with garland, shawl, gift and a refreshment packet as a token of respect and regards. Many senior citizens recited songs, poems and jokes which were very well enjoyed by all present including members enthralled the audience. All present were appreciating the arrangements and respect shown to them by Council headed by its President J.R. Gupta who also extended them Birthday greetings and thanked them for their participation in large numbers. Acharya Mahendra Mishra of Chitrakoot extended his best wishes to all concerned. The function concluded with distribution of Souvenir 2017, Elderly News for the month of June 2017 and refreshment packets to all present. During AGM of Senior Citizens Council of Delhi held on 05/07/2017 at Azad Bhawan Auditorium, Sh. J. R. On the occasion of World Elders Abuse Awareness Day, Senior Citizens Council of Delhi organized Interaction Session with DCP (South) on 15-06-2017 at Recreation Centre, Green Park Extn. New SHO Safdarjung Enclave Sh.Subhash Malik was also present along with his staff. The members from different parts of South Delhi under the jurisdiction of DCP (South) interacted and shared their grievances mainly encroachments on footpaths, unauthorised bus parkings, regular visits by beat constables at the residences of lonely Senior Citizens and other concerns relating to safety and security of life & property. While welcoming, Sh.Ishwar Singh, DCP (South), J.R.Gupta, President, introduced Sh. Subhash Malik, new SHO, Safdarjung Enclave ,who joined only on 14-06-2017 evening. After hearing the concerns of the members, DCP (South) assured to take remedial measures by SHO at the earliest and can meet him, in case their grievances are not redressed within 7-10 days. He also assured to meet after every three months regularly to know the feedback from the members so that he could issue necessary directions to concerned SHOs. New SHO also assured to interact with the members as and when required on regular basis. Rs. 2000/- and Rs. 2500/- per month at the age of upto 69years and 70years and above respectively. He further told that other various demands such as issue of identity cards to Senior Citizens by Social Welfare Deptt. like Maharashra and Goa Govts. free pilgrimage tours across the country for 400 senior citizens in 2 years having each batch 50 persons, Separate helpline for Senior Citizens, enhancement of recreation grants from Rs. 20,000/- to Rs 30,000/- per month having recreation centers and from Rs 10,000/- to Rs. 15,000/- per month without recreation centers to eligible SCAs on the grounds that such revision was earlier approved in April, 2011, free travel in DTC buses, exclusive coach in Delhi Metro, free health care. All such issues were recorded in the aforesaid Minutes of Meetings, but its implementations are still awaited. A Memorandum to this effect was also handed over to Chief Minister by J R Gupta. Chief Minister announced that all the demands would be met by Delhi Govt. very shortly, as formulation of Commission of Senior Citizens is already under process and one meeting of Draft Committee has already been held. His Govt. has already ordered to provide free treatment to all senior citizens even in private

hospitals. He categorically assured all the senior citizens present that his Govt. is committed for a safe secured and dignified life. He also launched Senior Citizens Apps of Confederation which would provide Emergency Help to vulnerable senior citizens across Delhi regarding protection from humiliations / abuses at the hands of their own children and others. Sh. Ramniwas Goel, Speaker, Delhi Vidhan Sabha, also spoke and stressed the need to encourage younger generations to respect and care of their elders. Sh. Rajendra Pal Gautam, Social Welfare Minister, assured the audience to convene a meeting with Confederation Members shortly to meet with their pending above referred issues. Dr. Supreet Singh delivered a talk on eye care. Dr. Ravi from USA from D-Care also delivered a talk on health. On this occasion, a Fashion Show was also performed by the Members of Council which was well appreciated by Chief Minister of Delhi. J R Gupta and his members felicitated all the Guests with Pagri, Shawl and Memento, followed by vote of thanks by Sh. B S Yadav, Secy. General, refreshments.

across Delhi. He further informed that a function was organized in association with Delhi

Police (Eastern Range )on 13/05/2017 at Maharaja Agarsen College, Vasundhra Enclave

in which more than 1200 Senior Citizens participated . Even the Senior Citizens Council

of Delhi organized a special function on 15-06-2017 in the morning at its Recreation

Centre, Green Park Extension on the occasion of World Elders Abuse Awareness Day in

which DCP (South) Shri Ishwar Singh interacted with Senior Citizens. Sh. Gupta also

shown his concern about the less number of Senior Citizens registered by Delhi Police as

only 30,759 up to 31/05/2017, as more than 1 lakh Senior Citizens across Delhi are

residing alone. The beat Constables should also visit lonely Senior Citizens at least twice

in a week regularly. The members also suggested to have monthly meetings at SHO Level

and after every 3 months at the level of DCP regularly. After hearing the views of all the

members, Shri Praveer Ranjan, assured to take remedial measures to address their

grievances/ suggestions in due course. On behalf of Delhi Police , it was also conveyed that

any lonely Senior Citizen who wants to get registered can do the needful by filling the

J.R. Gupta, President of the Council congratulated both the couple and prayed to almighty for their long life with sound health. Shri P.R. Gupta 87 years father of Harish Kumar Gupta also extended his blessings along with Acharaya Mahender Misher of Chitrakoot. All the members present extended their good wishes.
