Overview

This guide is designed to provide a brief description of the eLearning courses offered by the NextGen Learning Center. eLearning provides a self-directed, web-based learning environment that allows users to take courses at their own pace. The purpose of the eLearning courses is to introduce users to the NextGen and QSI applications. They are designed to provide a basic level of understanding on how to set up and use the Electronic Health Records (EHR), Enterprise Practice Management (EPM), and Electronic Dental Record (EDR) applications, and are intended as precursors to instructor-led training. PresentationeLearning content is presented in courses that are often grouped into curricula and education plans. A course is a unit of instruction on a particular topic. Most courses focus on one main topic, and will take approximately 15-45 minutes to complete. Once you have finished a course, you can refer back to it at any time by going to the My Courses – Completed page of your eLearning account. In the Learning Center, a course is represented by a red book. A curriculum is a grouping of one or more courses related to a larger, more general subject area. In the Learning Center, a curriculum is represented by a red book with a blue band. An education plan is a grouping of several curricula that apply to a particular role or job function, such as System Configuration Training or Biller. Continuing Medical Education

NextGen Healthcare is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.

NextGen Healthcare designates each CME activity for credit in category 1 of the AMA’s Physi-cian’s Recognition Award system. Activities are designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, and the physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educa-tional activity.

v5.6 An Overview of the EHR Application

Time: 30 minutes Continuing Education: NonePrerequisites: None Application Version: 5.6-5.6 SP1

This course provides a brief overview of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) application.

What You’ll Learn:• Describe the architecture of NextGen's applications.• Describe how EHR handles workflow-such as scheduling, managed care functionality, charting, and prescription

refills.• Describe how EHR captures patient information.• Describe ways that EHR exchanges with other systems.• Describe how EHR provides security and patient privacy.

Getting Started Setting Up NextGen v5.6

This curriculum focuses on how to set up access for the NextGen applications and databases.

v5.6 Application Launcher


This course is designed to help you to navigate through the Application Launcher that is used to access the NextGen ap-plications.

What You’ll Learn:• Open the Application Launcher from your desktop or from the Windows toolbar.• Review the Legal Disclaimer window.• Sign on to a NextGen application by using your user name/password combination-or your PIN.• Customize the NextGen Menu with your desired applications.• Create desktop shortcuts for the NextGen applications.

v5.6 SetDB Application

Time: 15 minutes Continuing Education: NonePrerequisites: None Application Version: 5.6

This course covers how to use the Set Database application to change the active database without manually configuring the ngconfig.ini file.

The DWS education plan will teach you the setup for EHR file maintenance and table building. It is suitable for clients who have only purchased the EHR application, and anyone who will be doing the setup of the application and working with it from beginning to end. This education plan is required for anyone attending the DWS classroom training session. If you purchased EPM in addition to EHR, please refer to the SCT education plan. The estimated time to complete this education plan is 20 hours.



What You’ll Learn:• Describe the purpose of the SetDB application.• List the different NextGen databases.• Identify how databases are used.• Switch between the NextGen databases your practice uses.

v5.6 License Manager


This course is designed to instruct the student how to use the NextGen license Manager to apply-validate, and update licenses for the various NextGen applications.

What You’ll Learn:• Open the License Manager Application from the NextGen Application Launcher.• View license information for the available NextGen products.• Apply a new license key for a NextGen Product.

File Maintenance v5.6

This curriculum focuses on navigating the File Maintenance application.

v5.6 Using File Maintenance


This course covers how to navigate the NextGen File Maintenance application.

What You’ll Learn:• Access the File Maintenance application.• Identify the four main parts of the File Maintenance interface.• Access lists of codes.• Open-modify, create, and hide specific codes.• Use the File Maintenance Menu options.

Introduction to NextGen Organizational Levels v5.6

This curriculum focuses on setting up the various organizational levels of the NextGen applications.

v5.6 Determining and Assigning Organizational Levels


This course covers the issues you need to explore to determine the NextGen hierarchical setup for your organization.

What You’ll Learn:• Identify the hierarchical order of NextGen organizational levels.• Decide at which level to share your patient data.• Label each level of your organization using NextGen terminology to a patient.

This course covers how to set up your enterprise in the NextGen File Maintenance application.

What You’ll Learn:• Define an Enterprise as it applies to NextGen applications.• Identify and collect the information necessary to set up an Enterprise.• Create and modify Enterprises in the File Maintenance application.

This course defines the role that a Practice has in the NextGen applications. Here you will learn how to set up a new Practice Master File.

What You’ll Learn:• Define a Practice as it applies to NextGen applications.• Identify and collect the information needed to set up a Practice.• Create and modify Practices in the File Maintenance application.

This course covers setting up the Locations system master file in the File Maintenance application.

What You’ll Learn:• Define a Location as it applies to the NextGen applications.• Identify and collect the information needed to set up Locations-whether as a service location or a facility.• Create and modify Locations in the File Maintenance application.

This curriculum focuses on setting up application users and other security options.

This course covers how to properly set up and maintain user groups in the System Administrator application.

What You’ll Learn:• Define user groups.• Create-modify, and delete user groups.• Add existing user groups from other practices.

Setting Up Master Lists - EHR v5.6

This curriculum focuses on setting up EHR specific Master Lists using the File Maintenance application.

This course is intended to instruct the user how to set up the External System Setup system master file in File mainte-nance in order integrate NextGen with the Siemens Global Sessions Manager.

What You’ll Learn:• Locate the External System Setup system master file in File Maintenance.• Define how the selections on the External System Setup window function.• Set the rights and permissions to this system master file.
