Candidate lists for the elections to theNational Assembly shall be composed in away such as to promote a minimumrepresentation of 33% of each sex (Articles 1and 2 (1)).

Are there sanctions for non-compliance?(legal or financial) explain

If lists are not modified within a certaintimeframe, non-compliance is to be madepublic and reduction of public funding willensue provided for the conduct of theelectoral campaign, in relation to the level ofinequality on lists (Article 7). If either sexaccounts for less than 20% of each list, theparty will see public funding halved. For listswhere either sex accounts for 20 to 33%, thereduction in public funding will be 25%.The financial sanction does not apply to listswith less than 3 names.

This case study presents the situation in Sweden as regards the representation of men andwomen on the electoral lists in the elections for the European Parliament 2014.

The first two tables indicate the legal situation regarding the representation of men andwomen on the lists and the names of all parties and independent candidates which willpartake in these elections.

This case study presents the situation in Slovakia as regards the representation of men andwomen on the electoral lists in the elections for the European Parliament 2014.

The first two tables indicate the legal situation regarding the representation of men andwomen on the lists and the names of all parties and independent candidates which willpartake in these elections.

The subsequent tables are sorted by those political parties which were already representedin the European Parliament between 2009 and 2014 and will firstly indicate whether andhow a party quota applies and then present the first half of the candidates on the lists forthe 2014 elections.
