Teaching English as a Foreign Language means we must offer our students the simulation of an English speaking environment, but cannot forget that once they leave us they are exposed to Spanish-only stimulus which makes it a challenge for them to connect to the language and practice on their own. With this in mind, it is our task to design a class where students can see the usefulness of what we intend them to learn as applied to their individual realities, the importance of interaction with other students both in and out of class, and the fact that the strategies to practice are within their reach by making sure we teachers include said strategies in class as opposed to just assigning them for homework or mentioning them in passing. We will obtain these results assigning our students the responsibility of providing real life context to all topics we present, and encouraging all forms of analysis, comparison and projection possible. It sounds simple, and could be so, if we put ourselves in the students shoes, and plan lessons that involve resources at their reach, real Costa Rican situations, and the differing generational needs of the students.Quoting Beth Crumpler Modern classrooms have moved from the traditional brick walls to connectedness in digital learning, or electracy.... But the 3 Rs are not the only essential skills now needed.Students now also need the 4 C's critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity.

The "Hole in the Wall" project demonstrates that, even in the absence of any direct input from a teacher, an environment that stimulates curiosity can cause learning through self-instruction and peer-shared knowledge. Mitra, who's now a professor of educational technology at Newcastle University (UK), calls it "minimally invasive education."

Educational researcher Sugata Mitra is the winner of the 2013 TED Prize. His wish: Build a School in the Cloud, where children can explore and learn from one another.
