Electro Magnetic Braking System

ABSTRACT:

An Electromagnetic Braking system uses Magnetic force to engage the brake, but the power

required for braking is transmitted manually. The disc is connected to a shaft and the

electromagnet is mounted on the frame .hen electricity is applied to the coil a magneticfield is de!eloped across the armature because of the current flowing across the coil and

causes armature to get attracted towards the coil. As a result it de!elops a torque and

e!entually the !ehicle comes to rest. "n this seminar the ad!antage of using and working of

the electromagnetic braking system in automobile is studied. These brakes can be

incorporated in hea!y !ehicles as an au#iliary brake. The electromagnetic brakes can be used

in commercial !ehicles by controlling the current supplied to produce the magnetic flu#. By

using the electromagnetic brake as supplementary mretardation equipment, the friction brakes

can be used less frequently and therefore practically ne!er reach high temperatures. The

brake linings thus ha!e a longer life span, and the potential $brake fade% problem can be

a!oided. "t is apparent that the electromagnetic brake is an essential complement to the

safe braking of hea!y !ehicles.
