Preface

•I have come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in my classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates the climate. It’s my daily mood that makes the weather.

Page 4: Electronic Portfolio

Preface Continued

•As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.

Page 5: Electronic Portfolio

Preface Conclusion

•In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanized.

Theories of Learning:

• The following slide provides links to short papers that I composed to review, relate, and critique scholarly journal articles on various learning theories.

Page 9: Electronic Portfolio

Rational for Inclusion:

• These assignments are included in my portfolio because they show that I have gained some limited knowledge in the field of Learning Theory. These are first documents that I have produced in this area. I hope they show that I have begun to develop the necessary theoretical background to be a good, reflective, urban practitioner. Learning Theories and Technology

• The following slide contains links to short papers that I composed to review, relate, and critique scholarly journal articles on the relationship between Learning Theories and Technology.

Page 12: Electronic Portfolio

Rational for Inclusion

• Just as with my papers on Learning Theory being the first papers that I produced on that topic, these papers are examples of me developing a professional knowledge base on Learning Theory and its relationship to Technology. In so doing, I feel that it puts me ahead of the learning curve for professional development in this area.

Group Project

• The next slide provides links to a group project that I completed with some of my colleagues.

• E-Groups, Learning Theory

Rational for Inclusion

• Often times when working in groups, people do not get along with each other. Fortunately, that was not the case here. I include this project in my portfolio because I am proud to have worked with a great group of people and learned so much from each of them.

Work-Based Learning:

• The following link will take you to the paper that I prepared on work-based learning. Work-based learning is an alternative educational approach that I feel has a great deal potential for success, particularly in urban settings.

• Work-Based Learning

Page 17: Electronic Portfolio

Rational for Inclusion

• I chose to include this paper in my portfolio because it exhibits that there are many ways in which people learn, and just as important, there are many ways to teach . Teaching is a not stagnant process. As society advances, so must the ways in which in we educate our students.

Reflections:

• The following links bring you to Reflections that I composed while enrolled in Introduction to Educational Technology, a course taught by Rich Sentipal.

• Reflection One• Reflection Two• Reflection Three• Reflection Four

Page 19: Electronic Portfolio

Rational for Inclusion:

• I chose to include these assignments because I feel that it is important to look back to where I have been before jumping into something new. I do not always like what I see when I look back at old work, but it shows where I have already been, and more importantly how far I have I come.

At the Movies!

• I chose to include the following links to George Washington University’s web site because I felt that the video clips contained gave a good concise look into B.F. Skinner and Lev Vygotsky. (Sorry, there is no real video of Vygotsky, he died in 1934).

An ongoing Project:

• Below you will find a link to a project that I have been working, off and on, for about a year. Someday, I hope to work in a school to career program. Maybe then I could really get to use this project. I began this project last February, and used it as a final project last summer. Check out:

Visual Reflection:

• Below you find a link that takes you to my PowerPoint Presentation that compares Cognitive Interactionism and Behaviorism. I chose to include this presentation because it show that I am continuing to gain a deeper understanding of the two major theories of learning. CO: 1, 2, 4, 5

Rational for Inclusion

• I chose to include these particular Web sites in this portfolio because these are the ones that were most useful to me in completing assignments for the course. There is much information yet to be reviewed in these sites. They will be an ongoing source of information for me.

• Return to T.o.C.

My Little Internet Venture:

• In order to complete this assignment it was necessary for me to learn how to create Web pages. All of the documents contained in this presentation are posted on the Web, excluding my other PowerPoint presentations. I have begun to develop a Home page on Learning Theory, please take a look, but remember it’s a work in progress. Learning Theory Page
