A web browser is a type software that allows

you to find and view web pages on the internet.

There are many different kinds offered by

different companies including:

◦ Internet Explorer

◦ Safari

◦ Mozilla Firefox

• Use quotes to find an exact term

• Ex: “the ides of march” quotes

• Use before a word, it excludes sites with that info

• Ex: jaguar speed –car or

• Ex: pandas -site:wikipedia.org

Dash (minus)

• Use * as a placeholder for any unknown or wildcard terms. Ex: "a * saved is a * earned"

* (asterisks)

Search Operators

• Get results from certain sites or domains. • Ex: olympics site:nbc.com and olympics

site:.gov site:

• Find sites that are similar to a web address you already know.

• Ex: related:time.com related:

• Find pages that might use one of several words.

• Ex: marathon OR race

(all caps)

• Searches only for the file type you designate (pdf, doc, jpeg, etc)

• Ex: filetype:pdf filetype:

• Only shows results with that word in the title

• Will also search for related words • Ex: ~college will search for higher education

• Shows all the results from within a designated timeframe

• Ex: 2008..2010 ..

• Good for quick word definitions

• Ex: define:angary define:

• When looking at any document or webpage, hit Ctrl +F and type in the word

• Hit enter and all instances of the word will be highlighted
