SUPER SPROUTS
Four & Five Year Olds
Campers have not yet attended Kindergarten
Week 1: June 10-14 “Mini-Beasts”
Ants, slugs, earthworms and pillbugs are captivating
creatures; and although small, they are an essential
part of their habitat. Let’s look under rocks and logs
as we discover the wonderful world of the
Arboretum’s tiniest residents.
FRIDAY FUN: MINI BEAST PARADE
Week 2: June 17-21 “Flower Friends”
Bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, oh my!! These
are just a few of the flower’s friends, and like all
friends, they need one another. This week campers
will dive into the world of flowers and learn what
makes these beauties of the plant world so attractive
to us and so many animals!
FRIDAY FUN: ARBORETUM FLOWER SHOW
Week 3: June 24-28 “Dynamic Dynos!”
Did you know that
the first nearly
complete skeleton of
a dinosaur was found
here in New Jersey?
Campers will learn
about the
Haddonfield Hadrosaurus and other incredible
inhabitants of the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous
periods. FRIDAY FUN: DINO DIG
Week 4: July 8-12 “Lenape Life”
The Lenape, the original inhabitants of our area, had
a very close relationship
with the natural world,
and this week campers
will get a small glimpse
into their way of life.
Campers will try their
hand at a few Native
American games, plant a
Three Sister’s garden,
create crafts using natural
materials and learn some
of the lore that is passed
down through time.
FRIDAY FUN: LENAPE FOLKTALE THEATRE
Week 6: July 22-26 “Skull and Bones”
Was an animal predator or prey? Was it a carnivore,
herbivore or omnivore? Did it have any “super
senses?” Skulls enable us to answer these and so
many other questions! Skull sleuths in this week’s
camp will discover how to “read” animal skulls and
will also investigate other clues that creatures leave
behind, like scat, tracks and owl pellets.
FRIDAY FUN: RRA NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Week 8: August 5-9 “Dirt Detectives”
Did you know that it can take 500 years for one inch
of dirt to form? The ground beneath our feet is our
ultimate natural resource. Soil nourishes all forms of
life and is also full of life! Through experiments,
games and activities campers will “dig” the
connection between the Earth’s “skin” and all
living things.
FRIDAY FUN: SECRETS OF THE SOIL TRAIL WALK
Week 5: July 15-19 “Secrets of the Night”
What happens at the Arboretum when the sun goes
down? The animals aren’t telling!! Campers will
search the grounds for evidence that animals leave
behind and like detectives, piece together events of
a typical night at the Arboretum. Campers will
immerse themselves in the world of nocturnal
animals and through games and activities learn
about their mysterious ways.
FRIDAY FUN: A NIGHT AT THE ARBORETUM
Week 7: July 29-August 2 “Weather Watchers”
So many of our activities
depend upon the weather
and this year’s weather has
been unbelievable! During
this week campers will
become amateur
meteorologists and learn to
understand and predict the
forces that determine our weather. Campers will
make clouds, rain, tornadoes and even lightning! It
will be a wild weather week at RRA!
FRIDAY FUN: RRA WEATHER CHANNEL
Capture the magic of nature at this special day camp!
Each day campers will explore the gardens and trails
at the Arboretum, participate in exciting games and
activities, and create unique crafts. New for this year:
• Longer hours for our Super Sprouts camp.
Morning sessions will be from 9:00am to
12:00pm; afternoon sessions will be from 12:30 to
3:30pm.
• Introducing Friday Fun! Beginning this summer we
invite parents and caregivers to join our campers
for a half hour of interactive fun on the last day of
camp each week. A wonderful way for your child
to share what they have learned over the week!
Special guest musicians Rose & the
Nightingale will assist our campers in
preparing for a special Friday Fun show! The
highlighted camps will feature these talented
musicians!
