  • Project Planning Software for Overhead Contact Line Systems

Aims - ELFF modules help users to design,

build new, upgrade and maintain projects whilst saving time and keeping costs down.

    - ELFF provides definitive information on technical feasibility and construction costs in the shortest possible time.

    - ELFF makes it possible to design overhead contact line systems of whatever type on the basis of a 3D model, showing the tracks, the surrounding area and the overhead contact line.

    - ELFF is a project design tool based on AutoCAD.

Outcomes - Layout and wiring plans.- Cross section profiles including

assembly dimensions.- A review of the structural calculations

for masts and wires.- Any view, as required, e.g. signal

sighting.- Longitudinal profiles.- List of materials.

    The Individual Modules: ELFF-CAD

  • ELFF-CAD: 3D Model of the Overhead Contact Line SystemELFF-CAD is designed to produce a 3D model of the overhead contact line system for any given track layout. Distorted views can be used to deter-mine contact wire lateral position and contact wire height to enable clear and efficient design. As an option, a range of displays such as wind blow-off and sag due to ice loading can be over-laid. The 3D model forms the basis for all of the other ELFF project planning modules.

Input Data: When the track layout is available as a 3D vector file, then the implementation of the 3D model is of optimal quality. Track data can also be taken from customer-specific sources, for example from the Rail Geo System (RGS, SBB), Toporail, In-Rail and CARD/1. The software also assists with the allocation of support structures to establish the longitudinal spacing between them. However, the model can also repre-sent existing installations for design purposes, there is also an expandable library which contains the necessary parameters for the overhead contact line components.

Output Data:Views of the overhead contact line system from all directions, layout plans, cross section, longitudinal profiles. Mast and catenary system (e.g. dropper) tables can be exported as lists from the 3D model.

    The Individual Modules: ELFF-CAM

  • ELFF-CAM: Cross Section Profiles incl. Assembly Dimensions and Material ListsBased on the 3D model, ELFF-CAM can generate purchase orders, detailed tender and assembly documents depending on the chosen overhead contact line system.

Input Data:For the most common overhead contact line components, an expandable components library is available con-taining the descriptions, dimensions, part numbers and prices. The rules and building regulations applicable to the correct assembly of each specific system are taken into account.

Output Data:Cross section profiles including assembly dimensions and material lists are generated for each particular task.

RADIAL LOAD IS NOW SHOWN ELFF-CAT: Structural Calculations for Masts and Cables

Input Data:ELFF-CAD delivers the necessary data such as the weight of components and tensile forces of the wires.

Output Data:Structural calculations for masts and wires are carried out continuously as the 3D model is produced. As a result, ELFF-CAT produces verification of the structural strength of components.

    The Individual Modules: ELFF-CAP

  • ELFF-CAP: Phase Plans ELFF-CAP is the module for phase plans. A service life is assigned to every component so that it appears on the plans for the corresponding construction phase, marked in the appropriate colour (whether existing installation, to be removed, new constructions, temporary structures, etc.).

Input Data:The only input required is to designate the construction phases and to assign components to each phase.

Output Data:For each separate construction phase ELFF-CAP produces the same documents already described under ELFF-CAD and ELFF-CAM.

Licence AwardRailway companies and overhead contact line planners are able to acquire licences for the modules. The associated databases are customer-specific and need to be tailored by us. Training courses are required and will be given on request. Support and updates can be provided by individual agreements.

ServicesELBAS and Furrer+Frey use the ELFF project planning software when providing consulting engineering services for overhead contact line systems. Our design engineers are experienced in the planning of local and long-distance railway systems within both Switzerland and abroad. Thanks to the flexibility of ELFF, comparisons between different overhead contact line designs can be made at an early stage in the planning process.
