The InterIslander is very comfortable
with 9 decks, it has restaurants, a movie

Interislander can accommodate hundreds
of people on this 92 kilometer, 3 hour

WETA CAVE
Weta is a spec ia l ef fectscompany that makes the impossible
look real in films. They have done the
special effects for Lord of the Rings, The
Hobbit, Narnia, Avatar and many, many
more. In the Weta Cave they have
props on display that were used in
those famous movies. The Cave is a
studio where visitors can see the ideas
come to life. How someone can have
an idea for a weapon or a costume or a
even a vehicle that would be used in the
film. The idea then goes through many
stage s before it is fi nished . Thedimensions must be figured and many
copies of different materials are made,
it is then painted to look old or
scratched up or brand new depending
on this props role. Weta also produces
all the sets and do the computer
generated images. Weta is famous for
the important work they do in the
movie business.

Container of treasures, this iswhat Te Papa Tongarewa translates t.o.This it is, filled with possibilities to learn
and opportunities to see and experience
the wonderful treasures of New Zealand.
One of the highlights of thisspectacular museum was The Colossal
Squid exhibit. The largest squid ever
found is on display in Te Papa, it is being
preserved in a special tank. This squid has
quite a story, it was caught in the oceans
of Antarctica by a large fishing vessel. The
creature was gifted to Te Papa. There is
much to learn about this incredible squid
I highly recommend you visit this link:

is a beautiful place, with white sand beaches and
cold ocean waters. It is very
peaceful, covered with green, lush with grass, bushes, flowers
and all kinds of trees. You can
hear the birds singing in the
morning, their songs fill the
crisp air. Uniquely shaped islands
are scattered off the coast,
protected and not to be
touched by any human being.
The caves on the beaches,
carved by the sea and the white
wispy clouds that fill the sky.The
sunset casting the sky in a pale
pink glow, and the reflection of
the big bright full moon in the
water. These are are the things
that make this place what it is.
Hot Water Beach was ahighlight of the Coromandel it is
a where water heated from
geothermal activity lies directly
under the beach. People come
from all over to experience this
volcanic phenomenon. You
simply rent a shovel at the the
beach and start digging in the
sand, soon enough you will have
your very own homemade hot

temperature by letting in more
or less cold ocean water. In
some places the water was so
hot that you could seriously
burn yourself by stepping in an
area. I was baffled about this
incredible place .

ROTORUA AND THE MOARI PEOPLE
are the indigenous people ofNew Zealand, they travelled here by double hulled
canoes from Hawaii hundreds of years ago. Like the
native Hawaiians the people are of Polynesian origins.
Stories tell that the first man who discovered New
Zealand found the land by following the birds. The birds
he followed were called Godwits, they migrate in flocks
of thousands of birds. These incredible birds have the
longest nonstop flight of any bird of earth, every year
they fly from Alaska all the way to New Zealand. It is a
7,000 mile flight over the Pacific Ocean, on the return
trip they fly over Europe and the USA.
The Maori have very unique traditional dancesand songs, while in a town called Rotorua we went to a
tribal experience, they served a traditional meal cooked
underground in a special pit oven, it was delicious. They
also performed their tribal dances and songs, their
voices were so strong, they sung and danced with so
much meaning. It was beautiful the way they believed in
their traditions so strongly.
The Maori have a dance called the Haka, it issupposed to intimidate their opponents in battle. Many
pieces of Maori art show a man with seemingly glowing
eyes and his tongue sticking out ,this represents the
Haka dance. The men slap themselves to show strength
as and they chant loudly. The dance is very powerful and
creepy. We were then guided to the Geysers, thesegeysers were very important to the Maori that lived
here long ago, the warm water was a luxury for the
natives and they used it in many aspects of their lives.
The Maori are unique and amazing people thatare respected in New Zealand. They have kept their
culture alive through art, education and stories.

TREATY OF WAITANGI
THE TREATY OF WAITANGI IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENTS IN
MAORI HISTORY. THE TREATY WAS A DOCUMENT SIGNED BY BOTH BRITISH AND
MAORI PEOPLE. IT WAS AN AGREEMENT OVER WHO CONTROLLED THE PLENTIFUL
AND OF NEW ZEALAND. THE TREATY SEEMED A PERFECT SOLUTION, EVERYTHING
WAS FALLING INTO PLACE, BECAUSE OF THIS TREATY THE MAORI WOULD HAVE AN
NDERSTANDING OF RIGHTS AND PEACE WITH THE BRITISH FOREVER. THIS WOULD
AVE BEEN THE CASE IF THERE HAD NOT BEEN TWO DIFFERENT COPIES OF THE
REATY BEING SIGNED, THE ENGLISH VERSION AND THE MAORI VERSION. THE ENGLISH
ERSION SAID THAT THE BRITISH HAD LEGAL INDEPENDENT SUPREMACY OVER THE
EOGRAPHIC AREA OF NEW ZEALAND AND HAD THE RIGHT TO GOVERN THIS
OUNTRY. IN RETURN A BRITISH GOVERNOR OF NEW ZEALAND RECOGNIZED THE
MAORIS OWNERSHIP OF THE LAND AND GRANTED THEM THE RIGHTS OF BRITISH
UBJECTS. THE MAORI VERSION STATED THAT THEY GAVE UP TO THE CROWN THEIR
IGHT TO GOVERN IN RETURN FOR FULL PROTECTION, WITHOUT GIVING UP THE
IGHT TO MANAGE THEIR OWN MATTERS.
THE TREATY MAY HAVE ITS PROBLEMS BUT IT HAS KEPT THIS COUNTRY
ROM CONFLICT AND DISCRIMINATION THAT HAS TROUBLED MANY RACES OFNATIVES IN OTHER COUNTRIES, THE MAORI HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE FRIENDS INSTEAD
OF ENEMIES WITH THE PEOPLE THAT CAME HERE OVER 200 YEARS AGO IN THE 1800S
