The Power of CTE—Investment in the Future:

Responding to the economic climate is part of the original

mandate of Career and Technical Education (CTE). Washington continues to grow programs and options for students utilizing

CTE’s emphasis on relevance, rigor and relationships. Washington State earns $9 in projected additional tax revenues

for every dollar invested in secondary CTE. CTE combines academic, employability, leadership, and technical

skills to help students achieve success in education and life.

CTE engages students with pro-

grams that allow them to explore,

compete, and succeed as lifelong learners, equipped for a changing

economy and their own path to success.

CTE works with business and in-

dustry partners to help fill posi-tions that are available today, while closing the skills gap and

preparing a qualified workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.

CTE programs are developing

Washington’s most valuable re-

source—its youth; helping them gain the skills, technical knowledge,

academic foundation, and real-world experience needed to be pre-

pared for high-skill, high-demand, high- wage careers.

CTE classes are offered at the high school and middle school 7th/8th.

CTE is basic education first. Next, with enhanced funding and expectations, CTE offers….CTE is basic education first. Next, with enhanced funding and expectations, CTE offers…. a unique opportunity to engage students in an enormous variety of subjects, incorporating academic, creative and technical skills, with the specific goal, nowhere else represented in education, of preparing students for all of life that comes after high school. In order for students to succeed, we need to prepare them for the ever-changing world of work, which means not only college readiness, but career readiness—students with access to postsecondary education and skills attainment possibilities that will prepare them to achieve in the 21st century.
